“Kindness doesn't cost anything, and yet it means everything.”

In this edition of our newsletter, we will focus on an essential aspect of education: Social Emotional Learning (SEL). While students may excel in subjects like math and reading, the ability to manage emotions, resolve conflicts, and handle stress is crucial for their overall success. Without these skills, academic achievements may not hold much value.

The content we learn in school becomes meaningful only when we can navigate our actions and behaviors in a productive manner. Understanding our students on a personal level is vital, as SEL fosters an environment where they can thrive. Research consistently demonstrates that Social Emotional Learning plays a significant role in enhancing student performance, well-being, and their attitudes and beliefs about themselves.

Energy Check-ins Energy Check-ins

Have you observed how a class's atmosphere can shift based on students' energy—whether it's positive or negative??

An "Energy Check-In" is an effective practice for educators to assess the emotional and mental well-being of their students. This involves regularly asking students to self-evaluate their current energy levels. Teachers can facilitate this through a simple verbal check-in, asking students to rate their energy on a scale (for example, "low," "medium," "high") or by using a percentage. By understanding the energy in the classroom, educators can tailor their engagement strategies to better connect with their students and enhance the learning experience.
