MLK DAY OF SERVICE
On Monday, January 19, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in the MLK Day of Service—a national day dedicated to service, reflection, and community action. This day reminds us that everyone, including our youngest learners, can make a positive difference by showing kindness, helping others, and giving back.
Families looking for meaningful ways to serve together are encouraged to explore local service opportunities happening in our community. These activities are a wonderful way to model empathy, civic responsibility, and the values Dr. King championed.

Together, let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy by serving others and strengthening our community.
Starting on January 12, Woodcrest will be participating in the READBowl. We will be keeping a total of minutes spent reading and we will be competing for the highest student average. Within Woodcrest, classes are paired in their Shark Squads for this competition and the Shark Squad with the highest average number of minutes read will win! The competition culminates Super Bowl weekend.
This activity is voluntary and meant to be a fun way to encourage reading with our students. If your child does not want to participate in logging minutes, that is fine as well. All types of reading count so if you are logging, be sure to count when you read to your child as well as when they read themselves.
If you have questions, please contact Shera Goldstein, Literacy Teacher Coach (sgoldstein@chclc.org)
Plastic Recycling
We are still continuing to collect plastic to recycle for an outdoor bench. We collected over 33lbs in December!
Take a look at the Recycling Challenge Slideshow for more information about what can (and cannot be recycled).
More information about the Great Kindness Challenge, including activities you can do at home, will be shared closer to the Challenge Week!
