MES Weekly ScoopIt's A Great Day to Be A Bulldog! Bulldogs Don't Quit!

Principal's Note Principal's Note

December 15th-19th, 2025

MES Families,

As we head into our final week before Winter Break, we want to remind families that this will be a busy and exciting week for everyone! While the days will be full of learning and celebrations, the good news is that temperatures look to be warmer than this past weekend, which should help with morning arrivals and afternoon pick-ups.

Our staff is truly excited to finish the first semester alongside your children. It has been a wonderful semester of growth, learning, and connections, and we know that students, families, and staff alike are ready for a well-deserved break filled with rest, joy, and time with loved ones.

Important Reminder for Friday, December 19:
• School will dismiss at 12:10 PM
• No lunch will be served

Friday morning will be full of fun and tradition at MES. Students will participate in our annual TREE SING, where we come together to sing a variety of songs as a school community. We will conclude the morning with our end-of-the-quarter Minute to Win It Assembly.

Students are welcome to dress in holiday festive clothing such as green, red, ugly sweaters, or other cheerful attire. Classrooms will also be hosting their class parties Friday morning.

Additionally, we are seeking feedback from families regarding our Math Night held in November. Your input is incredibly valuable, as the only way to improve is to learn what worked well and what we can enhance before planning a Literacy Night in the spring. A link to the feedback form is included below, and we truly appreciate you taking a few moments to share your thoughts.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. On behalf of the entire MES staff, we wish you and your families a joyful holiday season and a safe, restful Winter Break.

--PTO Fundraiser Delivery Information-- --PTO Fundraiser Delivery Information--

All the goods from our recent fundraiser are scheduled to be delivered to the school on December 16th. Please plan on picking up your student's sold items between 3pm and 5:30pm that day.
Items will be distributed from the cafeteria on the west side of the building. Due to the overlap with dismissal and for the safety of all students please approach the building by the doors on the west side of the building rather than the front.

Preschool parents--please note that on the day of our fundraiser delivery, deliveries will take place in the same area as preschool dismissal. This may cause some additional congestion during dismissal time. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we work to keep all students and families safe. Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility on this one day!

✨ Explore Our Wonderful Sensory Room!

We are thrilled to highlight one of our school's most valuable resources: our dedicated Sensory Room! This special space is designed to provide a calming, therapeutic, and stimulating environment for our students. It is thoughtfully equipped with a variety of tools to meet different sensory needs, including padded roller bars, a soft crash pad and various textured wall tiles for proprioceptive and tactile input, weighted blankets and vests, and a selection of fidget tools and manipulative toys. The importance of this room cannot be overstated; it allows students who are overstimulated, anxious, or struggling to regulate their emotions to safely process sensory input. By offering a retreat where students can calm their nervous system, the Sensory Room helps them return to the classroom feeling focused, balanced, and ready to learn, ultimately supporting their overall academic and emotional well-being.

SELweb SELweb

SELweb is an online, research-based assessment that helps us understand students’ social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. It measures areas such as understanding emotions, perspective-taking, social problem-solving, and the ability to work well with others.

The information from SELweb gives our school a clearer picture of how students are developing these important skills, much like academic assessments help us understand their progress in reading or math. Results highlight strengths as well as areas where students may benefit from additional support or instruction.

We use SELweb data to guide our SEL instruction, plan small-group or whole-class lessons, and strengthen the support we provide for students. It helps us be more responsive to students’ needs so we can foster a positive, safe, and supportive school environment.

🚸❗ MES Parking & Drop-Off Safety Notice 🚸❗ 🚸❗ MES Parking & Drop-Off Safety Notice 🚸❗

To help keep all students and families safe during preschool drop-off and pick-up—and during our regular daily drop-off times—please review the following important parking reminders:

🚫 Do Not Park in Front of the Gate at 10th & Carolina
This area must remain clear at all times. Parking in front of the gate blocks the crosswalk where many students and families need to safely cross before and after school or during drop-off.

Bus Lane Reminders
If you plan to exit your vehicle to walk your child to the building or conduct business in the office, please do NOT park in the bus lane in front of the school.
We must keep this lane open for:

  • Morning and afternoon bus traffic

  • Mid-day transportation bringing students to and from MES

Where You Can Park
For your convenience, parking is available:

  • In the stalls along Carolina Street

  • Along the south side of the concrete wall (parallel parking)

Gate Opening
The gates on 10th Street will be unlocked no later than 3:10 PM daily to allow students to safely cross from the playground and white top area.

Draft Resolution ONE WAY on Alston Street

From the 11/24/25 Marysville City Council Meeting--A resolution to create a one way on Alston Street going east from 10th Street to 11th Street was passed. PLEASE be prepared for any changes for the traffic to flow in one direction Alston Street (behind the school building) once we have received notice when the change will occur.

Safety First
Our top priority is the safety of children and families during the busiest times of the day. Improper or illegal parking—such as blocking crosswalks or parking in the bus lane—may result in tickets or penalties issued by the Marysville Police Department.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our MES community safe, respectful, and responsible during arrival and dismissal!

25-26 MARYSVILLE ELEMENTARY STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK 25-26 MARYSVILLE ELEMENTARY STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK

25/26 MES Parent Handbook

Our Parent Handbook is an important resource that outlines the expectations, policies, and procedures for the school year. It includes information about academics, attendance, behavior expectations, communication, and ways families can stay engaged in their child’s learning.

We ask that families review the handbook occasionally so that everyone is familiar with our school guidelines. Please continue to reference it throughout the year whenever questions arise. Working together, we can ensure a safe, supportive, and successful school experience for every child.

Reminder About Bus Lane Parking

For the safety of our students, please do not park in the bus lane at any time. If you plan to enter the building, we ask that you use the designated parking stalls or park on the other side of the cement/barricade wall. This ensures our buses or district vans transporting students to and from other schools have clear access and keeps drop-off and pick-up running smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation!

Empathy

We follow the three R's in our building.

Be Ready

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

AND Be Safe

Character Strong – Empathy (Week 3)

Empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Here are 3 simple steps to practice Empathy this week: 1. We can ask others, “How are you?” 2. When they respond, we can really listen to them and try to understand 3. We can ask more about it with a question like, “Will you tell me more about that?” or, “How do you feel about that?” When we take the time to understand and connect with others, we make our school a place where everyone feels like they belong!
