Families of the Bay
Hello, Families of The Bay!
Conference week is here, and we’re looking forward to seeing you! Conferences give students a chance to share what they’re proud of, reflect on their progress, and talk about where they need support. Please bring your questions and share what you’re noticing at home. Hearing from you helps us better support your student.
Students will be dismissed at 11:25 a.m. each day, October 19–23, with evening conferences on Tuesday, October 20, and Thursday, October 22. If you still need to schedule, please contact your student’s Advisory teacher. While you’re here, stop by the Commons to say hello to our admin team!
We also want to recognize our eighth graders who ran for ASB Executive Council. Putting yourself out there and sharing your ideas with classmates takes courage. We’re proud of everyone who stepped up! Election results will be announced Monday, October 19. Seventh- and eighth-grade Advisory classes will also be nominating their Advisory Representatives, giving more students an opportunity to share ideas and represent their classmates.
It’s Spirit Week, too! As we enjoy the activities, our October 3R focus remains on Respect. During Bullying Prevention Month, we’re reminding students that including someone, using kind words, and speaking up safely for others all help make The Bay a welcoming place. On Wednesday, October 21, students and staff are invited to sign the Unity Day pledge at lunch in support of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Thank you for being part of The Bay and for working alongside us to help every student feel known, seen, heard, and supported. We look forward to connecting with you this week!

A New Month, a Fresh Start for Attendance BINGO!
Each month brings another chance for students to join our attendance BINGO celebration! To qualify, students need:
No unexcused absences
No tardies
If your student didn’t qualify last month, they get a fresh start this month!
We look forward to celebrating students for being at school and getting to class on time. Thank you for helping your student build these habits at The Bay!
Picture Retake Day – Friday, October 30!
Families, mark your calendars! Picture Retake Day is Friday, October 30! This is an opportunity for students who missed our original picture day or would like their photo retaken.
As a reminder, October 30 is also our Halloween dress-up day! Please keep this in mind when planning outfits if your student will be participating in picture retakes.
Get those smiles ready, T-Wolves!
OBJH Halloween Costume Guidelines
Staff and students are encouraged to join in the Halloween fun by dressing up if they feel comfortable! Costumes are completely optional, but it's a great opportunity to have some fun with students and build school spirit. A Quick Look at Our Student Handbook
With so many students sharing classrooms, hallways, lunch spaces, and the gym each day, it helps when we’re all working from the same expectations. Our Student Handbook explains those expectations and is a good place to turn when you or your student have a question about how things work at The Bay.
Take a look when you have a chance: Oakland Bay Junior High Student Handbook. You can also reach out to us if you need help finding an answer.
Big Smiles Mobile Dentistry — November 4

Fall Conferences: October 19–23
Beginning Monday, October 5, students will work with their Advisory teacher to schedule a conference with their family. Students can bring home a conference letter or use their phones during Advisory to contact you and find a time that works.
Once a time is agreed upon, the Advisory teacher will record the appointment. Please let your student’s Advisory teacher know if you need interpreter support.
Conferences will take place October 19–23, with evening appointments available October 20 and 22.

Fragrance Free at the Bay
At OBJH, we’re committed to a safe, healthy, and focused learning environment for all students. Strong scents (perfume, cologne, body spray, scented lotions) can trigger headaches, nausea, difficulty concentrating, and even serious allergic or asthma reactions. Because scents linger and spread in shared spaces, they can impact an entire classroom and disrupt learning.
This isn’t about preference—it’s about health, safety, and access to learning for every student and staff.

HELP US KEEP THE BAY A NO TECH ZONE
To support student learning, connection, and a positive school environment, cell phones should be turned off and stored in student lockers during the school day.
We appreciate families partnering with us to help students stay present and focused throughout their day.
A few important reminders:
Cell phones should be off and stored in lockers
Students should not carry phones in classrooms, hallways, or other school spaces
If a student needs to contact home, a staff member can help
If families need to reach their student during the school day, please contact the main office
Thank you for helping us create a school environment where students can focus on learning, relationships, and being part of our T-Wolf community.
Be Present. Be Connected. Be a T-Wolf.

Parking Lot Safety
Please help us keep arrival and dismissal safe for everyone:
Buses: Use the lane directly in front of the building.
Student Pick-Up/ Drop-Off: Use the center lane.
Watch carefully for students and pedestrians.
Drive at a slow, safe speed and follow the traffic flow.
Please bring a little extra patience during busy arrival and dismissal times.
Thank you for helping us keep the OBJH parking lot safe and moving smoothly!
Become a Volunteer
At the Bay, we believe in the power of teamwork and the strength of community. To help foster a sense of safety, belonging, and connection for all our students, we are inviting you to partner with us by volunteering!
Your presence and involvement not only enhances safety but also shows our students that their families and school are united in supporting their success. Whether you can join us weekly or for special events, your contribution will make a meaningful impact.
