Principal's Message
As we enter December, I want to take a moment to look back on a wonderful November, one filled with so much to be thankful for here at Nathan Twining. Our Veteran’s Day program was a meaningful tribute to those who serve, and our middle school band, orchestra, and choir concerts showcased the incredible talents of our students. We also had the joy of welcoming new families and students to Twining, adding even more warmth to our school community.
With December’s arrival, the winter weather has certainly made its presence known! We will kick off the month with our Monday Morning Opener (MMO) for our elementary students and our Tuesday Morning Openings (TMO), both centered on how Thunderbirds S.O.A.R.—Safe, Organized, Accountable, Respectful. This month, our 3rd graders and 6th graders will lead the way in teaching our school about accountability. These assemblies continue to set strong expectations for behavior and school culture, thanks to the dedication of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports committee, Mr. DeWitt for helping lead them, and the musical support of Mrs. Myrold, who plays piano for our birthday celebrations and Twining School Song.
May your December be filled with hope and joy. Thank you for all you do to make Twining part of this amazing community!
Happy Winter,
Mr. Kurtyka
Principal, Nathan Twining
WINTER REMINDER PARENTS:
Here in North Dakota, we all know one thing for sure… Winter doesn’t tiptoe in—it moves in!
The temperatures have dropped, the snow is flying, and it’s officially time for our students to gear up for the season.
To help everyone stay warm, safe, and ready for outdoor fun, we’re asking each student to have a “Winter Bag” at school.
Winter Bags should include:
Coat
Snow pants
Snow boots
Gloves
- Hat
Our classes will go outside for a 30-minute recess whenever the temperature is above 0°F, so having winter gear at school every day is essential—especially for students who walk to and from school.
Winter Bags may stay on your child’s classroom hook during the week as long as items aren’t wet or dirty. If things get soaked from playing in the snow (as they often do!), please send them home to be dried or washed before the next school day. We also ask that Winter Bags be taken home over the weekend so everything can be fully dried, cleaned, and ready for a fresh week ahead.
Many families find that a reusable grocery bag or similar works perfectly for transporting winter gear separate from backpacks.
Student who DO NOT participate in Breakfast club should NOT be dropped off prior to 8:10 AM as there will be no adult supervision to allow students inside due to inclement weather.
Thank you for helping our Twining students stay cozy and winter-ready!
