CTE & SCC Superintendent Host TECHNOLOchicas
TECHNOLOchicas program approach is to highlight the interests and strengths of Latinas in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. The Santa Cruz County Superintendent's office sponsors the TECHNOLOchicas club in middle schools around Santa Cruz County.
On May 9, 2024, middle schools gathered at the Rio Rico High School Performing Arts Center to celebrate those interests. The full-day conference was filled with inspiration from young Rio Rico and Nogales High School graduates who are pursuing STEM education and careers. The young STEM leaders were also provided with fun and engaging activities to participate in.
At San Cayetano, Anything is Paw-ssible!
Anything is Paw-ssible Day, celebrated on April 26 at San Cayetano Elementary, brought many
professionals and community workers to the school site to inspire young minds about future
career choices.
Students began their day dressed as what they thought they wanted to be when
they grew up. The San Cayetano hallways and playgrounds were filled with students dressed as
doctors, artists, teachers, law enforcement, and many other professionals.
Students spent their day traveling from classroom to outdoor booths engaged in hearing
professionals talk about what they do and how they worked hard to reach their goals. Many
presenters captured the students’ attention with hands-on activities or displays that excited
students.
The fire department had a contest to see which firefighter would dress in their
protective uniform the fastest. Unisource had a charged display to show students the dangers of
electrical lines. Rodrigo Valenzuela from the Taekwondo Academy in Nogales taught students
about the history of Taekwondo and some students even had the opportunity to learn a few
kicking techniques.
Overall, the presenters left the students awed and inspired. Anything is Paw-ssible Day did just
that for San Cayetano’s students. It showed them that with hard work and dedication, anything
really is “Paw-ssible” for San Cayetano’s Cheetahs!
