Husky Highlights
Hinesburg Community School - August 28, 2026
WELCOME TO THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR!
What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! It has been so much fun welcoming students back to HCS and seeing our hallways and classrooms filled with energy, excitement, and lots of smiling faces.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Ice Cream Social and Sneak Peek earlier this week. We loved seeing students reconnect with friends, meet their teachers, explore their new classrooms, and get a first look at the spaces where they will learn and grow this year. It was also wonderful to reconnect with returning families and welcome so many new families to our school community.
Our first few days of school have been busy and exciting as students settle into new routines, get to know their teachers and classmates, and begin the year together. We are so grateful to our staff, students, and families for helping make the opening of school such a positive one.
We are also looking forward to our upcoming Back to School events. These gatherings are a great opportunity for families to meet more of our staff, learn about classrooms, programs, and supports, and connect with the HCS community. A full list of upcoming events and other important information can be found on our school website and in the Husky Highlights newsletter.
If you are new to Hinesburg Community School, welcome! We are so happy to have you as part of the HCS community and look forward to getting to know you and your family in the weeks and months ahead.
Finally, a quick calendar reminder as we head into September: there will be no school on Friday, September 4, or Monday, September 7. We hope everyone enjoys the extended four-day weekend, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, September 8.
Thank you for a terrific first few days. We are excited for all that this school year will bring!
With appreciation,
Tim, Alexis and Alicia

PICKING UP YOUR CHILD DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please call 802-482-2106, option 3, approximately five minutes before you arrive at HCS.
This gives us time to locate your child, have them gather their belongings, and send them to the HCS office. When you arrive, you can sign your child out in the office.
There is no need to email the attendance address or contact your child’s teacher in advance for a daytime pickup— - just give the office a call approximately five minutes before you arrive.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY IN K-4 CLASSROOMS WITH THE HCS FOUR WINDS PROGRAM
Want to learn more about nature? Eager to share the joy of discovery with your children and their classmates? Become a Four Winds classroom volunteer at Hinesburg Community School!
Adult volunteers (HCS parents, grandparents, or community members) generally meet the second Friday morning of each month, for a workshop taught by a naturalist from the Four Winds Nature Institute staff. At each of these seven workshop, we learn about a fascinating natural science topic with activities designed to teach children in grades K-4. Then, later in the month, two volunteer partners bring these lessons to the classes and take the children outdoors, leading them through the activities.
Our first volunteer training workshop is Friday, September 18th at HCS. The workshops are held September-May, with no workshops held in December or February.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact Sara Lovitz, Volunteer Program Coordinator at hcsfourwinds@gmail.com
You can also find our more about the Four Winds Nature Program here - https://fwni.org/the-nature-program/. This year's theme will be Cycles in Nature.
HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE CARPENTER CARSE LIBRARY
We want to hear from YOU!
Carpenter-Carse Library is exploring what the future of our library could look like, and your ideas matter. Whether you visit every week or only occasionally, we want to know what you love about the CCL, what you’d like to see more of, and how we can better serve our community.
Take our Community Vision Survey! Draw Your Dream Library!
Both kids and adults are invited to draw or illustrate their vision of a dream Carpenter-Carse Library. Turn your drawing in at the library so we can see your ideas.
How to Participate - Survey Ends September 14
Online:
Paper:
Pick up a paper survey at the circulation desk. When you're finished, simply return it to the circulation desk.
All responses from our adult and children's surveys will be compiled and shared with the Carpenter-Carse Library Trustee Board. The results will be discussed at the September 16th Board Meeting and will help inform our conversations about the future of our library.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your voice and help us imagine what Carpenter-Carse Library can become!
Every idea matters. Every voice counts.
SIGN UP TO BE A GUEST TEACHER AT HCS!
