Take 5 with Dr. Friedman
This week’s Take 5 with Dr. Friedman shines a light on some exciting highlights across the QCSD! We’re celebrating district-wide achievements, exploring college and future-readiness opportunities at our High School, and gearing up for a weekend full of music with our Panther Marching Band. Plus, you’ll find helpful information to dive deeper into your student’s curriculum.
And with gorgeous weather on the horizon, it’s the perfect weekend to enjoy it all.
Have a wonderful weekend, and Go Panthers!

#1. Explore Your Child's Curriculum
What is “curriculum”?
Curriculum is the roadmap for learning—it outlines what students are expected to know, understand, and be able to do at each grade level and in every subject.
Did you know that the Quakertown Community School District’s curriculum is public and easy to access through Atlas? Take a moment to get familiar with what your child will be learning this year—course descriptions, units, and learning goals are all just a click away!

#2. QCSD Recognized as Common Sense Education District
Digital media and technology are evolving at a dizzying pace, both unlocking extraordinary opportunities and posing real risks for young people. Students are using the immense power of the internet and mobile technology to explore, connect, create, and learn in ways never before imagined, both in and out of the classroom—especially this year. But issues that emerge from this 24/7 "connected culture," such as cyberbullying, privacy lapses, and uncertainty about which information to trust online, are surfacing both in schools and at home.
QCSD sees these as teachable moments. We believe that digital citizenship skills have become essential for students. That's why our schools are dedicated to helping students think critically and use technology responsibly to learn, create, and participate. QCSD has just been approved as a Common Sense District, an honor that recognizes our efforts in teaching digital citizenship to young people, engaging the entire community in this important discussion, and supporting educators who are using technology for learning. The recognition acknowledges our district's commitment to providing safe and innovative spaces for students to thrive as they harness the full potential of technology for learning and life.

#4. Celebrate the Panther Marching Band!
Join us on Saturday, September 20 at 6 PM at Alumni Memorial Field for this year’s USBands competition. Our Panther Marching Band, along with more than a dozen visiting bands, will showcase their incredible talent in a night filled with music, spirit, and community pride.
We are grateful to the Quakertown Music Promoters Organization (QMPO) for their tireless support of our students and programs, and to our families, staff, and community for championing the arts. Your dedication makes all the difference.
Welcome to our visiting bands, and thank you to everyone who keeps the tradition of music excellence alive in Quakertown. Let’s make it a night to remember—Go Panthers!
#5. Congratulations to all QCSD elementary schools!
Each of our schools has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Network for their outstanding implementation of School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS).
So, what does this mean?
It means our schools have created supportive systems—school-wide, in classrooms, and at the individual level—that foster positive behaviors and stronger learning environments for all students. Teachers and staff explicitly teach behavioral expectations and celebrate students when they demonstrate them.
The results are powerful: fewer disruptions, more positive school climates, and students who understand and practice what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe.
We are so proud of our schools for this recognition and the commitment it represents to every child’s success.
Want to join in the effort? Ask your child’s principal how you can get involved!
