SLEDMERE CEPRIMARY SCHOOLWEEK ENDING 24TH JUNE 2022

'Learning and growing in the love of God.' (1 John 4:16)

REMINDER SPORTS' DAY

If you missed the information about Sports' Day here is a reminder. We hope the weather holds out. Should it rain, we will cancel, and let you know as soon as we are able.

TRANSITION

At this this time of year attention often begins to turn towards new classes and change. Transition events have already been happening for our Year 6 pupils. On Thursday all pupils, including our new Reception children, will spend the morning in their new class.

Teachers will use this time to begin to build relationships with pupils, to talk about autumn and to alleviate any concerns. It is an exciting time and we look forward to helping your child on the next part of their journey at Sledmere.

ARE YOU COMING TO THE FOSS SUMMER FAIR?

We'd love to see you there. Remember, if you have any spare time or if you are able to help with prizes (see below) please let FOSS know. Any items can be left in the school office.

REFUGEE WEEK

During this week, our children have learned all about the part we play in the world as Global Citizens. They learned about refugees. It was an opportunity to work with each teacher and for the whole school family to come together to reflect on our learning. Here is a brief summary of some of the activities:

  • A focus on wants and needs when faced with the awful situation to have to leave your home and country.
  • Feelings on arrival in a new country and more specifically at a new school.
  • Investigating push and pull factors driving people to flee.

Our children demonstrated deep empathy with refugees and they were able to make suggestions about how they would act should they meet a refugee at school or in their community. Every pupil took part with enthusiasm and we were very proud of their learning.

These two videos were particularly well-received. We thought you might like to watch them again:

Shine Your Light

What is a refugee?

We enjoyed our extended Daily Mile. If you haven't already done so you can still sponsor your child via ParentPay. All proceeds raised go to Oxfam to help refugees. Thank you.
