The Weekly Highlander
Volume #28
A Message from the Principal
We made it to spring break! I hope each of you has a restful time with family and friends. When we return to school we will be in the last quarter of the year and looking towards summer. The last week of March will kick off our book drive for CHOC Hospital, please see the details and Wish List in the newsletter. On Wednesday, March 27th Foothill High School will be on campus during tutorial to work with our 8th graders. This will be their opportunity to learn about the programs and electives at Foothill High School by speaking directly with current students.
Please SAVE THE DATE for the Hewes Celebration of Learning that will be held on Thursday, April 4th from 6 pm - 7 pm. We invite ALL families to come to campus and see what your student has been learning over the past school year. If you have an incoming 6th grade student we will have a Welcome to Hewes meeting at 5:30 pm before the event kicks off.
Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

Book Drive for the Ethan and Choco Book Club: March 12th to April 4th
We are kicking off the Ethan and Choco Book Drive next week. This is a book drive for children who stay for extended periods in CHOC hospital. As these students are medically fragile, the hospital is strict about allowing only new book donations. For a little fun and to increase motivation, the 1st-period class with the most book donations will win a private 9 Square and donut party. Students need to bring the new books into first period to receive credit for the competition. See the Amazon Wish List for the book list and watch this brief video to learn more about Ethan's book drive.

Thank You Hewes PTA for updating our garden
The Hewes PTA has provided funds this year for campus beautification. The teachers and staff at Hewes worked together to move pots and purchase plants to refresh Marilyn's Garden at the front of our campus. Marilyn Stone was a beloved counselor at Hewes for many years and this space is dedicated to her memory and work.
