"Build houses and make yourselves at home. Put in gardens and eat what grows...
Make yourselves at home and work for the country's welfare. Pray for Babylon's well-being.
If things go well for Babylon, things will go well for you.'"
Jeremiah 29:5-7
Typically in Young Life we don't spend a lot of time talking about the Scriptures of the Old Testament, but this passage from Jeremiah has been rattling around in my brain lately. It's not hard to sub "Bettendorf" out for "Babylon" and imagine that God wants us to root ourselves deeply in working for the good of our community. We're seeing the fruit of slow and steady growth in many areas of B-PV Young Life and we have lots to be grateful for.
Here are a few highlights and things on the horizon...
IMPACT…
WyldLife’s Mess Fest and YL's Paint War are always nights that kids and leaders look forward to and this year's were no different! You might wonder why we're willing to endure slime and paint and shaving cream, but like everything in YL there's a method to the madness. The Good News that Jesus is with us in the messiness of life is on full display and the joy of life to the full is hard to miss! Check out the pictures below...
PRAYER…
I'm paraphrasing, but Young Life's founder, Jim Rayburn said that if Disney could be excellent for profit, our camps could be excellent for Jesus...and for kids! Please join me in praying for all those who are serving at Young Life camps this summer - may the grow in faith through their service and may all their efforts to make camp beautiful, fun, exciting and delicious point campers to the reality that they are deeply known and loved. Pray especially for Jake and Westin as they prepare to serve on Work Crew teams at Timberwolf Lake and Clearwater Cove.
FINANCES…
All the fun of Young Life in our area gets funded by friends and fans of our mission and we couldn't be more grateful for their support! This summer we've got a BIG and necessary goal - raise $20,000 so that we can hit the ground running with awesome YL and WyldLife Clubs when school starts up again! A longtime friend of YL has pledged to match new gifts up to $5,000 - would you consider doubling your impact and helping us get across the goal line? Give online HERE.
STAFF, COMMITTEE & LEADERS…
Everyone is getting excited to head to Castaway and two of our awesome WyldLife leaders, Ana and Jess, are preparing to experience camp for the first time! We can't wait for them to share the fun and faith of this adventure with our middle school friends!
Thank you for being a friend of B-PV Young Life as we work for the good of kids in our community.
Peace and prayers,
Emily
