KMS NEWSLETTER

Dear KMS Families,
We have a busy few weeks ahead and wanted to make sure you have all the important dates on your radar.
First, a big shoutout to all of our 8th graders for their incredible science fair projects! We are so proud of the hard work and creativity they poured into them.
On Monday, March 9, fifty pre-selected 8th grade students will be taking the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress). They should come prepared for a normal school day.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM both evenings. Open hours and scheduled appointments are available each night, and a Tech Help table for PowerSchool and Schoology will be on hand as well. All families are welcome to drop in. If you have questions or would like to set up a meeting, please give us a call at 907-486-7460. On Thursday, our PTSA will be sponsoring a meal in the commons, so come hungry and enjoy some pancit and lumpia with other KMS staff and families!
Friday, March 13 will feature a modified schedule with a pep rally to recognize KMS Winter Sports in the afternoon to send everyone off in style. Spring Break runs March 16 through 20, and we hope your family enjoys a well-deserved rest!
If you have not yet completed the School Climate and Connectedness Survey, please note that the deadline is March 20. Your feedback is invaluable and helps us continue to make KMS a better place for every student.
Please keep in mind that the end of the grading period is Friday, March 27, the week after we return. Encouraging students to tackle any outstanding assignments before the break is a great way to set them up for a strong finish to the quarter.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership!
Rena Rankin, Principal
Judith Bruns, Assistant Principal

Families are also always welcome to contact the school if they have questions or would like to request a meeting.
We warmly invite all families to stop by and visit during our open hours.
Tech Help table for PowerSchool and Schoology will be available both nights!
Thursday, PTSA will provide dinner in the Commons, so come enjoy pancit & lumpia!

7TH GRADE ELA STUDENTS - PERMISSION SLIP NEEDED
7th grade ELA students have been reading The Giver by Lois Lowry and will be viewing the 2014 film adaptation in class on March 23 and 24 as part of their study of theme, character development, and dystopian elements.
Because the film is rated PG-13, a signed parent permission slip is required and must be returned by Monday, March 23.
Students who do not return the form will complete an alternative assignment in a supervised location during the film.
Please watch for the permission slip coming home and reach out to Kerri Zelenak at Kerri.Zelenak@kibsd.org with any questions.
SPRING BREAK BOOK CLUB FOR TEENS
This Spring Break, immerse yourself into Maggie Stiefvater's bestselling book The Raven Boys - now a graphic novel! Come together as a group over three days; enjoy free snacks, prizes, and lively discussion about the story, characters, illustrations, and more. This a great way to learn about book clubs, meet new people, and expand your understanding of what it takes to write a fantasy book or graphic novel.
Lead by Education Coordinator, Cindy Jones | This club is geared towards students 13+
This is a free event, however the book is not included. You will have the option during registration to purchase a copy ($17.99), and the bookstore will set one aside for you!
