Member Spotlight - Treva Scott
Treva grew up in Central Kentucky (Frankfort) in a variety of religious settings. Her mom was an organist at a Lutheran church and her dad was the music minister at a Baptist church until she was about 5. At that time, they decided to quit their music ministry jobs and focus on their own religious journeys. Her dad grew up as a fourth generation Quaker and he and her mom began attending a Quaker meeting in Lexington KY. That is where she primarily attended church until her teen years where the focus was on community service, social justice issues and "finding the light of God in everyone". During middle and high school years, she attended the Baptist church where her dad had been music minister and was able to be a part of an active youth group. It was there that she sang in a youth choir and rang bells, went on various trips and made close friends.
She married her husband, Jesse Scott, in Fort Myers Florida on 11/11/11 and they knew before then that they wanted a home outside of Florida. They decided to make a home in Mars Hill in 2013 after camping with her cousins that live in the area. Madison County called to them because of the beautiful landscape and even more so, the beauty of the community they felt they could grow with. They were led to Mars Hill Baptist after their daughter Nora began singing in the children's choir in 2021. It was apparent that the congregation was full of people who really cared about the community and who were willing to show up. Every Sunday they attended, Tommy's sermons made her laugh (and cry) and admire the dedication and commitment to all of the ministries that come out of this church. She is a ringer and a singer at the church and recently became a deacon. It is a new role and she looks forward to serving however she can.
According to Treva, "Outside of church I am fortunate enough to work at Community Housing Coalition where I assist the community with urgent home repairs. Madison County continues to surprise me in the best of ways. The people have the most generous hearts and resilient spirits. After Helene, it was a powerful testament to watch CHC and Mars Hill Baptist tenderly loving people who lost so much. I could not have been more proud. I have met so many great people in this church but I look forward to getting to know those I have not yet met personally."

Just as Tommy and the Board of Finance are currently focused on Stewardship, this comes from the October 10, 1969 Together...
"Life is a stewardship; this is the teaching of Jesus Christ. Fundamentally, this teaching throughout the Scriptures is based on God's ownership, both by creation and redemption. This, stewardship becomes the Christian interpretation of life and is concerned with the Christian's use of all the resources committed to him, of possessions, of personality, of prayer." - author unknown

Summer - A Season to Grow In Faith
Summer brings longer days, warmer weather, and opportunities to slow down from our usual routines. While vacations, family gatherings, and outdoor activities fill our calendars, summer can also be a wonderful season to deepen our relationship with God.
The beauty of creation reminds us of God's goodness and faithfulness. Whether you're sitting on a porch at sunrise, walking through a park, or spending time with loved ones, take time to notice the blessings that surround you and thank God for His presence.
Scripture for the Season
"You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands."
— Isaiah 55:12 (NIV)
This verse reminds us that all of creation points to the glory of God. Summer provides countless opportunities to experience His handiwork and be renewed in spirit.
Summer Faith Challenge
Consider setting aside just 15 minutes each day for prayer and Scripture reading. Small, consistent moments with God can have a lasting impact on your spiritual growth.
Suggested Summer Bible Studies
Week 1: God's Creation
- Read: Genesis 1–2
- Reflection: What aspects of God's creation inspire you most?
Week 2: Finding Rest in Christ
- Read: Matthew 11:28-30
- Reflection: What burdens can you place in God's hands this summer?
Week 3: Growing in Faith
- Read: Colossians 2:6-7
- Reflection: How are your spiritual roots growing deeper?
Week 4: Serving Others
- Read: Galatians 5:13-14
- Reflection: How can you show Christ's love through acts of service?
Summer Activities with a Spiritual Focus
- Take a prayer walk through your neighborhood.
- Read a Psalm while enjoying the outdoors.
- Invite a friend or neighbor for coffee and conversation.
- Keep a gratitude journal and record three blessings each day.
- Volunteer in a local ministry or community project.
- Spend an evening with family sharing favorite Bible verses.

Closing Thought
As you enjoy the gifts of summer, may you find moments to rest, reflect, and reconnect with God. May this season bring renewed joy, deeper faith, and a greater awareness of His love and grace.
"The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy." — Psalm 126:3
