** NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS ** ** NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS **

** 1st Annual IB Awards Night ** ** 1st Annual IB Awards Night **

Special thanks to our IB coordinator Ms. Sarah Freeland for organizing our 1st Annual IB Awards Night, which was held this past Wednesday night, January 7th.

Ms. Freeland recognized our IB students from the first IB class to graduate in 2023, up through our current IB students. From Ms. Freeland's introduction: "Tonight we come together as a community to celebrate the dedication, perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and achievement of our IB students. In this room with us, we have four years of IB students in the room exemplifying the shared values that define the IB experience.

The International Baccalaureate program challenges students to think deeply, act ethically, and engage with the world beyond the classroom. This evening, we are proud to recognize both current students and alumni whose journeys reflect the rigor, curiosity, and global-mindedness at the heart of IB.

We are especially honored to induct our juniors and seniors into two distinguished IB societies. The Mount Vernon High School IB Plato Fellowship recognizes our Career-Related Programme students who engage in the study of ethics, developing principled decision-making and a strong sense of responsibility in their professional pathways. The Mount Vernon High School IB Da Vinci Society celebrates our Diploma Programme candidates, whose interdisciplinary thinking, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence embody the spirit of innovation and inquiry.

As we honor these accomplishments tonight, we also celebrate the families, educators, and mentors who have supported our students along the way. Thank you for joining us to recognize the past, present, and future of excellence in the Mount Vernon High School International Baccalaureate community."

We want to thank all of our MVHS alumni that were able to join us - including IB Diploma alum Anthony Thompson, who gave the introductory speech.

Our IB program has grown into a very successful advanced academic program option for our MVHS students. The class of 2023 had 21 total IB graduates - which has grown to 66 for the class of 2026. Our anticipated numbers for the class of 2027 is 86 and for the class of 2028 may be up to 100+. We currently have 216 total IB students at MVHS.

Early Release Days

In the event of a 3-hour early release, lunch service will still be available between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. FNS proposes to offer grab-and-go meals for students, allowing them to go through the serving lines, choose items, and put them in provided meal bags. Both cold and hot meal options will be available. Students are still required to pick up complete reimbursable meals; otherwise, à la carte charges will be applied. All meals provided by FNS must be consumed on-site.

School Nutrition Accounts, PINs, Prepayments, & MySchoolBucks

FNS will be emailing student PINs via e-Notify and in advance of the first day of school. MySchoolBucks should be promoted and is now available for account prepayments. State legislation and the FCPS Meal Charge Policy direct all school nutrition account negative balance communication to parents/caregivers. Additionally, students may not be denied a breakfast or lunch meal for any reason. FNS will work with school administrators to communicate low/negative account balances.

Menus

School menus offer a variety of entrees, fruits, and vegetables that meet or exceed USDA guidelines, including nutrient standards. Menus, allergens, and nutrition information are all available online at LINQ Connect. School menus will be published monthly, starting one week before the first day of school. FNS makes every effort to offer items as listed on the planned menu. Unanticipated substitutions are published on LINQ Connect whenever possible.
