Viking Families,

Teachers and students are working hard for a strong finish to the 1st quarter (Oct. 16th). Thank you for helping your students make attendance to school and class a priority. Remember that we have free tutoring available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15-5:00 in the Homework Help Room located in the school library.

We regularly review expectations and what it means to Be a Viking: Value Respect, Uphold Accountability, Prioritize Engagement! We want students to enjoy extracurricular activities while keeping success in the classroom as priority #1. To that end, we will consider attendance and behavior when determining whether students can attend games, dances, concerts, or other activities. Student engagement in the classroom leads to greater involvement in and connection to our school community.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on 10/22 from 12pm – 7pm in person in the MPC.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please contact us at 531-299-2700.

Vikings Follow the VIKING CODE! Vikings Follow the VIKING CODE!

Dear North Families,

As we wrap up September, we want to share a quick update on some of the behavior trends we are seeing at school. Our primary areas of focus continue to be following expectations, being in the appropriate place at the appropriate time, and arriving to class on time and ready to learn.

We are continuing to work with students and staff to reinforce expectations, provide positive feedback, and address concerns as they arise. When appropriate, classroom-managed behaviors are first addressed through strategies such as parent/guardian communication, student conferences, seating changes, and loss of classroom privileges.

As we head into the final days of September, let’s finish the month strong! We appreciate your partnership in reminding students to follow expectations, be where they are supposed to be, and make positive choices that support learning.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community!

Every Viking Thriving!

Senior English Field Trip to Film Streams!

Nearly 100 North High seniors attended Film Streams on Tuesday, September 22nd for a screening of the documentary A Time for Burning (1966). The Oscar-nominated selected for preservation in the National Film Registry addresses struggles surrounding integration and urban migration in the city of Omaha, centering upon efforts by a Lutheran minister to have his congregation share meals and space with Black residents of their neighborhood and shared faith. Students discussed their city and its history, the medium of film, and racial struggles in the United States before and after the screening, building upon lessons in class from their reading of The Autobiography of Malcolm X. It made for an outstanding outing that provided students with a new perspective on what they are learning at school with the addition of lunch and a movie.
