Greetings Bruin families-

I hope everyone had a relaxing and rejuvenating spring break! It’s always wonderful to see our school community take some time to recharge, and I trust that everyone is feeling refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the school year.

As we return to school tomorrow, let’s continue to focus on the growth and achievements we’ve made so far, while setting new goals for the remainder of the year. Please take a moment to remind students to stay focused, keep up with their assignments, and continue supporting one another as we work towards finishing this year strong.

There are many wonderful opportunities ahead. Please join the Bear Creek Black Excellence Program in partnership with the Muscle Queens Car Club for the 2nd Annual Family Day and Car Show happening this Saturday, April 5 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM in the Bear Creek Parking Lot. More details are in this newsletter. We hope to see you there!

Please take a look at all of the events planned this Spring.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school a place of learning, growth, and community.

Let’s make the most of these next few months as we head toward a successful end to the school year!

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

English, Math, and Science Parent and Guardian Notification Letter

Dear Parent/Guardian:

There are many ways to measure your child’s learning. Your child’s teacher uses report card grades, classroom work, teacher observations, and end-of-year statewide test results to get a complete picture of your child’s learning. Each year, students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), which is addressed in the Parent Handbook: https://tinyurl.com/4dm6jf6n (English) / https://tinyurl.com/37azwtnb (Spanish). Your child will take the following tests, depending on their grade level or instructional program:

  • Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts and math, required tests in grades 3–8 and 11

  • California Science Test (CAST), a required test in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school

This year, Bear Creek High School will give the summative assessments in person.

The testing schedule is listed below:

April 8 – 10, 2025

April 8 - 10 2025: Schedule

You are an important part of your child’s education. To make sure your child feels comfortable taking the tests, you can do the following:

  • Explain to your child that these tests are used as tools to help them learn, and that they should not be anxious or scared.

  • Remind your child that you and their teacher want them to try their very best and are there to help, every step of the way.

  • Explore the practice tests with your child on the CAASPP Online Practice and Training Tests web page at www.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html so they can become familiar with the platform and setup of the tests.

You will receive your child’s results at or before the beginning of the next school year. The results will identify where your child is doing well or needs more help, so you can better support their learning at home and teachers can better support their learning in the classroom. Additionally, the CAASPP will be one factor in determining if your child is eligible for the Seal of Biliteracy and the Early Assessment Program (EAP) with the UC and CSU system.

To learn more about these tests go to the CAASPP Starting Smarter website at ca.startingsmarter.org, or review the CDE Parent Guides to Understanding web page at www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.

If you still have questions after fully reviewing the CAASPP information found in your handbook, please contact Octavio Sosa at ososa@lodiusd.net

Sincerely,

Julie Hummel

Financial Aid Resources
The FAFSA and CADAA are scheduled to open on December 1, 2024 for the 2025-26 academic year. The delay from the customary October 1 opening day is to allow the US Department of Education time to perform beta testing and eliminate issues.

2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) or CA Dream Act Application(CADDA) is OPEN! Do not delay and fill it out today!

All Seniors are required to fill out one of the applications. Don't miss out, Priority Deadline is March 3, 2025.

In California, completing either a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or a CADAA (California Dream Act Application) is required by law for all graduating high school seniors, meaning it is mandatory to submit one of these applications to the state unless a formal opt-out waiver is filed; this requirement is enforced through state legislation, specifically the California Education Code Section 51225.7.

Please use the resources below to learn more about FAFSA or CADDA and what form would be best for you.

Assessment, Research, and Evaluation (ARE) Department

Dear Lodi USD Parent/Guardians,

Every year, California students take several statewide tests. When combined with other measures such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. You can use the results to identify where your child is doing well and where they might need more support. Your child may be taking one or more of the following:

  • California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)
  • English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)
  • Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

To see the full information on the above assessments, please visit our Assessment, Research, and Evaluation (ARE) Department website. Please select the Annual Notification of Testing, 2024-2025 link.
