Welcome Back Students and Families!

Dear Stuart Mesa Families,

We are so excited to welcome our Bulldog families back to campus for another amazing school year!

Over the summer, our campus continued to receive important facility improvements, including upgraded restrooms with new doors in our primary student restrooms. These enhancements are made possible through the Bond Measures generously supported by Oceanside voters.

Over the past four years, Stuart Mesa has seen tremendous improvements to our campus, including:

  • New classroom furniture in our elementary and middle school classrooms

  • Three new playgrounds

  • Fresh exterior and interior campus paint

  • A new digital marquee

  • Brand-new carpeting

  • A new HVAC system

  • Upgraded student restrooms

These investments continue to provide our students with a safe, welcoming, and modern learning environment.

As many of you may have heard, Oceanside Unified School District recently experienced a cybersecurity incident that disrupted portions of the district network. As a result, students will experience temporary delays accessing their district-issued Chromebooks, student Aeries accounts, Google Classroom, and programs accessed through ClassLink. This will not affect student registration or the start of school.

The good news is that Aeries Parent Portal is fully operational. We ask that all families complete their Data Confirmation before the first day of school.

Our teachers will be returning next week and attending training. They can't wait to welcome students back on Thursday, August 13! Please remember that August 13 and 14 are minimum days, and all students will be dismissed at 12:25 p.m.

We also invite you to join us for our Campus Walk-Through on Wednesday, August 12, from 4:00–5:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to find your child's teacher's room, explore the campus, reconnect with friends, and get excited for the year ahead. Additional details are included below.

We look forward to seeing all of our Bulldog families soon and to another outstanding year at Stuart Mesa!

Warmly,

Dr. Rhonda Heffernan
Principal, Stuart Mesa School

For drop-off & pick-up procedures, see the map below. As a reminder, only service animals are allowed on school grounds. Please leave your pet at home when you drop off or pick up your student. Students may arrive at the main gate for breakfast at 7:45 AM to 8:05 AM. At 7:55 AM the playground is open for students to line up. If not eating breakfast, TK-2 enters the primary gate which is located next to the Kinder area. Grades 3-8 enter the main gate by the office. At dismissal, TK-1st grades will come to the front of the school and stay with their teacher until picked up. Remember that TK, Kinder, and First graders must be picked up by an adult. Grades 2-8 can walk home.

School this year begins on Thursday, August 13th. You may walk your student(s) to the playground and their line-up area for the first 2 days of school. When the bell rings administration will ask that all parents/guardians exit campus so we can begin our school day. On Monday, August 17th we will close the campus as usual and students will need to be dropped off at the gate. For TK/Kinder students, we will stay an open campus from Aug. 17th-21st. Beginning Monday, Aug. 24th, we will be a closed campus for all visitors from 8:15 am until the end of the school day.

"During the Day, Off and Away"

Purpose/Rationale

To foster a safe and conducive learning environment by minimizing distractions and promoting the positive mental health of all students.

Research shows that cell phone use, particularly Social Media platforms, can be detrimental to adolescent mental health and focus. By reducing cell phone use during school hours, Oceanside Unified School District aims to create a better learning environment and support the overall well-being of our students. Here is the link to the OUSD Cell Phone Policy for your review.
