Reminders & Updates
BOLDED TEXT INDICATES NEW INFORMATION:
An important reminder regarding Parent-Teacher Conferences next week. Conferences will be held:
-
Wednesday from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM
-
Thursday from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Please note that Thursday is also a half-day for students, with dismissal at 11:40 AM. Friday there is no school for students.
In addition, we will be hosting a Book Fair in our library during conference times. Families are encouraged to stop by and check it out while visiting the school.
Lastly, thank you to all the families who attended our Breakfast of Achievement. It was a wonderful event, and we truly enjoyed recognizing the hard work of our Vikings of the Quarter!
We are happy to announce that Bangor Middle School is partnering with Western Michigan University for the GearUp grant. This grant will provide additional funding and supports for our students. In the coming weeks we will work closely with WMU to prioritize improvements in school culture and academics.
We have noticed an increase in concerns related to bathroom behavior and etiquette over the past few weeks. Please take a moment to remind your student about proper restroom expectations. Encourage them to report any misuse or maintenance issues to the office right away. Our shared goal is to maintain clean, safe, and functional restrooms for everyone.
Tardiness has also become a growing concern for students in grades 5–8. As a reminder, students have four minutes between classes to travel from one classroom to another and 25 minutes during lunch/recess to take care of personal needs. Please encourage your student to be punctual and arrive to each class on time.
To help support students, we will be implementing a one-minute warning bell between each class period. This bell will serve as a reminder that there is one minute remaining before the tardy bell rings. Repeated tardiness may result in lunch detentions and, if necessary, suspensions.
Thank you for partnering with us to help students develop the important life skill of being on time and responsible.
Social Probation is a districtwide policy aimed at incentivizing student academic performance by limiting student attendance at extracurricular activities due to poor grades. Students with three or more failing grades are not allowed to attend extra curricular activities. Students are notified if they are on social probation each Monday.
Athletic Attendance Policy
1. Students can get into home athletic events for free with their school ID. If a student does not have their ID they will be charged the admission fee. All students must pay during MHSAA Events such as District and Regional events.
2. Students cannot attend athletic events or other extracurriculars if:
- They are suspended/expelled
- Were absent on the day of the event
- On the social probation list
*If students attempt to attend and meet one of the criteria above they may be subject to disciplinary actions
3. Students in 5th grade or below must be supervised by a parent or guardian during events. Students in 5th grade or below will not be allowed admission to events without a parent or guardian.

Again, this school year, we will offer an opportunity for students who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The Lory’s Place support group is a safe space where students can explore their feelings and find support, regardless of when the loss occurred. It will include fun, age-appropriate activities and will be led by staff from Lory’s Place, a center dedicated to helping children and families through grief. The group will meet once a month during a class period. Parent permission slips are in the office; they must be returned to participate in the meeting.
