Dear College Park Elementary Families,

I am proud to share an exciting update about a truly special moment for our school community—our Leader in Me Lighthouse Review Day. This day was a powerful reflection of who we are and what we believe at College Park Elementary. Our students took the lead in the most inspiring ways. They served as hosts, guiding our reviewers through our building, confidently sharing their learning, leadership journeys, and the systems that support their growth. Our student leaders led tours, presented their leadership binders, and spoke with pride about their goals, progress, and impact.

Throughout the day, our students demonstrated that leadership is not just something we teach; it is something they live every day.

Our reviewers also had the opportunity to experience:

  • Student-led presentations of leadership binders and goal tracking
  • Classrooms where leadership and academic ownership are visible and alive
  • School spaces that reflect pride, purpose, and a strong culture of excellence
  • The powerful partnership between our school, families, and community

We were especially proud to have our families and community partners present, representing the strength of our village and the collective commitment we have to our students’ success.

As part of the review process, we shared our evidence binder, which highlights why we believe College Park Elementary exemplifies what it means to be a Lighthouse School—a place where leadership, culture, and academics come together to create lasting impact for every child.

While we will not receive our official results for a few weeks, what matters most is already clear:
We are proud.

We are proud of our students, our staff, and our community.
We are proud of the growth, the systems, and the leadership we see in action every day.

This experience affirmed that we are shining brightly—and we will continue to do so.

Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and belief in our vision. Together, we will keep building leaders and ensuring every child reaches their full potential.

Let’s continue to shine the light.

With pride and gratitude,

Dr. Maisha N. Otway

Principal, College Park Elementary School

If you’re looking for a way to get more involved at College Park Elementary, please consider applying for one of the two open parent seats on our School Governance Council (SGC)! The council is made up of a mix of staff, teachers, community members, and parents/guardians who work together to set and monitor the strategic direction of CPES. Parent members help decide how SGC funds are used to improve school, staff, and student success like funding Splish Splash Island and Teacher Appreciation Week. There’s also an opportunity to serve as the parent liaison between the school and the Superintendent (I've spent the last two years as the liaison, but I'll be leaving the council this year). During monthly meetings, council members advise the principal on school strategy. So, if you want to have a voice in decisions that impact our students and school community, being on the SGC is a good way to do it. If you have questions about what it's like to be on the College Park SGC, you can send me an email at turnerjo@fultonschools.org and we can chat.

Leadership Certification Day

We are incredibly proud of our school community following a successful Lighthouse Certification Day! Our student leaders did an outstanding job representing our school and truly brought our leadership culture to life.

From the moment our guests arrived, our scholars confidently showcased what it means to be a leader. Our building looked absolutely amazing—fully leaderized from wall to wall—highlighting student goals, leadership habits, and the powerful work happening in every classroom. Every hallway told a story of growth, ownership, and pride.

Students thoughtfully explained the Leader in Me habits, made personal connections to the 7 Habits, and demonstrated how leadership is embedded into their daily routines. One of the highlights of the day was watching our student leaders guide visitors through their leadership binders, proudly sharing their goals, reflections, and progress.

A special shoutout to Jayceon and Aniyah, who did an exceptional job leading tours. They spoke with confidence, clarity, and pride, truly capturing the heart of our school and leaving a lasting impression on our guests.

Our scholars didn’t just talk about leadership—they modeled it. Their confidence, accountability, and pride in their learning were evident in every conversation.

We are so proud of our student leaders for leading the way and showing what it truly means to be a Lighthouse school!
