The winner of the regional competition will represent our region at the 2024 National Spelling Bee event in Washington DC. next summer. Thanks to the sponsorship support from the Daily Star and contributions from many businesses and supporters, the champion will receive traveling expense stipend, lodging accommodations, and many prizes from the SCRIPPS organization.

For more information about the program and or to contribute to the traveling expenses fund, contact the program coordinator Martha Ryan at ryanm@dcmoboces.com or call 607-335-1292.

The Daily Star Renews Sponsorship

The Daily Star has renewed its commitment to support the program. The newspaper covers the registration for our region to compete at the regional level and for the champion to compete at the national level and also covers the cost of lodging for the speller and family.

DCMO BOCES raises funds to cover a stipend for transportation, meals, and some expenses for the speller. They also offset the cost of refreshments for family and friends to join the spellers at the competition event. The public is invited to watch the competition. Family and friends are encouraged to participate in the event to cheer and support the participants.

Daily Star Managing Director Valerie Secor said the paper looks forward to the spelling bee every year. The support from the Daily Star makes this program possible for all the region's schools.

Etymology - An Excellent Learning Tool

As educators, the main goal of this program is to strengthen student's use of vocabulary, encourage reading and writing and most importantly fostering activities that increase comprehension.
