Springdale K8Weekly Memo: September 5, 2022

Developing Routines

Our first week of school went exceptionally well. It was great to have students and staff back in the halls. As expected, we heard good laughter and saw many smiling faces.

We often highlight expectations and routines during the first few weeks of the school year. Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) is an approach our school uses to promote school safety and good behavior. Our rules are framed in the simple fact that we expect all Chargers to be safe, respectful, and responsible.

On the first day of school, we shared PBIS Charger shirts with all students. These will be our Charger Spirit Shirts for the entire school year; please encourage your students to wear them on Thursdays!

As we work on routines in school, I encourage each home to develop morning and evening routines at home. Daily routines will undoubtedly help improve student success at home and at school. Routines can save you time and stress when getting everyone out the door on time and in a good mood each school day or help your evenings go smoothly.

A good place to start is to outline the before and after school time your family has on each school day. Then create a list of tasks. If you have more time in the morning, it might make sense to put lunches together. If your morning routine is short on time for the required tasks, move packing lunches to your evening routine.

Sample Morning Routine

  • 6:00 AM Wake up
  • Brush teeth and wash-up
  • Get dressed
  • Make bed
  • Pack you backpack
  • 7:10 AM Head to Bus Stop

Sample Evening Routine

  • 4:00 PM Off the bus from school
  • Snack
  • 30 min Homework or Reading
  • 5:00 PM Help prepare dinner or free play
  • 5:45 PM Toy cleanup
  • 6 PM Family Dinner
  • Lay out clothes for the next day
  • Bath or shower
  • Put on pajamas
  • Brush teeth
  • Book or quiet time
  • 8:00 PM

I know that the more our school and families work together, the more successful each child will be.

Have a great week!
