All asphalt at Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School is being replaced. Some delays were experienced this week due to weather impacts, but the project is back on schedule. This project is disrupting some operations around campus depending on which phase of the project is active.

For the upcoming week (Week of 8/28/2023), there are planned closures around the courts and the auxiliary parking lot.

Dismissal for students being picked up will be impacted, and pick up locations will be changed while the courts are closed, STARTING ON MONDAY, AUGUST 28, 2023. See the picture below for these locations.

• Kindergarten - NO CHANGE (Small Mardon Gate by Trees)
• Grades 1 & 2 - MOVE TO LARGE MARDON FIELD GATE (Close to Battista Driveway, Do Not Use Battista Driveway or Parking Lots)
• Grades 3/4/5 - MOVE TO SOUTH BERMUDA GATES (Closer to Portables)

Based on construction activity, we may hold indoor recess rather than outdoor recess. We will provide an update next week about the planned impacts for the following week, the final week anticipated for the project.

These are locations for dismissal while the courts are under construction. The anticipated dates are Monday, August 28, 2023, through Thursday, August 31, 2023. We will update families when we are able to return to our regular dismissal gates.

Open House will be Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The doors will open right at 4:30 p.m., and be sure to arrive with enough time to visit the classroom!

This year's Open House will be a drop-in format. There will not be scheduled sessions/rotations. Families may visit their child's teacher and specials teachers as they are able.

Teachers will be available to share information and discuss questions. Please be aware that there will not be time for individual conferences at Open House, and families are welcome to request to meet with their child's teacher at another time.

We will be selling school spirit shirts at Open House. Our new spirit shirt will be available for $15. Our classic spirit shirts will be available for $10. For $20, you can purchase a new shirt and a classic shirt. For $20, you can purchase three classic shirts. We are only able to accept cash for purchases.

There is no school on Monday, September 4, 2023, due to the Labor Day holiday. The school building is also closed. Classes resume on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Students work in a variety of workbooks and additional pages in their classroom subjects. You may notice that students bring home their work at the end of a unit rather than on a daily basis. If you would like to know more about the learning happening in units, please check out the information on the weekly homework page or reach out to your child's teacher!

For the week ending August 25, 2023, student attendance rates were:

• Pre-K: 96.6%
• Kinder: 81.8%
• Grade 1: 91.5%
• Grade 2: 88.1%
• Grade 3: 89.2%
• Grade 4: 90.3%
• Grade 5: 91.7%

• Whole School: 89.9%

Regular school attendance is critical for student learning and achievement. Avoidable absences negatively impact a student's progress, and we appreciate families getting students to school on time each and every school day!
