Message From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This weekend is the unofficial start to the summer season. We also kicked off our school week with several end of the year events that students and staff look forward to. Our Title 1 Department held Family Engagement Night and fourth grade classes attended two field trips to Catawba/Project Wet and Historic Cold Spring Village in Cape May. We look forward to closing out the 22-23 school year with several more engaging activities planned for our students.

As a reminder, our school district will be closed on Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. We will see everyone back on Tuesday May, 30th. Have a great weekend.

Jim Battersby

Principal

Human Body Systems

The students in Mrs. Cortese's science class learned about the human body systems. They read and researched about the functions and importance of each system. Once completed the research they worked in groups of about 4-5 to complete full size models of the human body systems.

Catawba/Project Wet

On Thursday, May 25th Mrs. Brennan, Ms. Farmer, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Russ's classes participated in "Project Wet" at Alder Middle School. Earlier this month the students learned all about the invasive spotted lantern fly from Belinda Chester of Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. They prepared a station for Project Wet which showed people how to identify the spotted lantern fly, why they were so harmful to our ecosystem and ways to "crush the spotted lanternfly". Students also demonstrated ways to kill spotted lanternfly egg masses and how to capture the adult spotted lanternfly using the "bottle method" which was developed by student at Rutgers. Attendees walked away with important knowledge and a "Crush the Spotted Lanternfly" card to help them dispose of the egg masses.

Catawba/Project Continued

On May 25th some of our 5th grade students had the opportunity to participate in Catawba that was held a Alder Middle School. This annual event showcases environmental science projects our students have worked on this school year. Additionally, fourth grade classes attended the event and were exposed to future environmental science projects they may be interested in. A special thank you to Mr. Jones for coordinating the event.
