Dear Parents and Community Members,

Confirmation Confirmation

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation, conferred by Bishop George, at our Parish Church last Sunday. It was a lovely ceremony, and our students reverently participated. We pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit will guide our students in their lives.

Tomorrow, Friday 22nd May, we will be taking part in National Walk Safely to School Day as part of our Laudato Si’ Week activities. We encourage students and families to make active, sustainable choices by walking safely to school where possible. Unwell Students Unwell Students

Recently, we have had many students away due to sickness. It seems like this time of the year with the cold nights and mornings brings lots of illness. If students are unwell, they need to stay home. Not only are students miserable at school when they are sick, they take longer to recover when they are at school unwell, and they spread their sickness around to other students. They find it difficult to learn when they are at school when sick. Thank you to parents for ensuring that students are recovered and well before returning to school.

Kindy 2027 Kindy 2027

I am currently conducting interviews with new families for children commencing Kindergarten next year. I always ask them what brings them to our school to seek enrolment. It is encouraging to hear people say that they have heard good things about our school or know people who have children attending and they speak very highly of our school. Interviews will be completed shortly for our Kindy class 2027. Enrolments will be organised for Pre-Kindy 2027 later this term. Please spread the word if you know of anyone who is interested in exploring enrolment at our school.

Winter Carnival and Cross-Country Winter Carnival and Cross-Country

The Winter Carnival will be held on Thursday 4 June at Hay Park in Bunbury. All students from Years 5 and 6 will compete in football, soccer and netball against students from other schools. Please see Mrs Sinclair if you have any questions.

The Cross-Country will be held on Thursday 18 June for students in Years 1-6. Our Cross-Country run helps determine the Year 3-6 interschool Cross Country team, who will travel to Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School to compete in Term 3.

Uniforms Uniforms

I appreciate the support of every parent who understands that wearing correct uniform says a lot about our school and our standards. I also appreciate parents who understand that it is more important for teachers to be teaching their children, than enforcing the uniform policy. It is the responsibility of the home to ensure children wear correct uniform and for that understanding we thank you.

Here are a few reminders to note:

  • Faction coloured sports shirts are worn from Pre-primary to Year 6 ONLY on Fridays. On other sport days, the teal sports uniform shirts are worn.
  • The new sports polo shirts and tracksuit jackets and tracksuit pants are worn on sports days.
  • Rugby tops and the new sports jacket are only worn with the sports uniform, not with the formal uniform.
  • With formal uniforms, shoes are ALL BLACK, no white soles or laces.
  • All students wear white school socks on sports days and with the sports uniform.
  • Boys wear grey socks with their formal uniform
  • Girls wear white school socks with the formal uniform, or girls may wear black tights with the formal uniform dress for warmth in winter.
  • Pre-primary students wear the sports uniform every day.
  • If hair is touching the collar, it needs to be tied up.
  • Black trousers are available as an alternative for girls to wear with the white school shirt instead of the checked dress.
  • Students are encouraged to wear the teal jumper for warmth with the formal uniform.
  • Leggings are not part of the OLC Uniform. Tights may be worn with the formal dress only.

Uniforms are purchased from Perm-A-Pleat to ensure uniformity of colour and style.

Thank you for your ongoing support ensuring that our students wear their uniform with pride.

School Advisory Council School Advisory Council

At our School Advisory Council meeting this week, some of our Student Leadership Council attended to give the SAC a representative ‘student voice’ perspective. It was great to have their input and to respond to their questions. Thanks to the parents of the SLC for bringing them along and seeing their growing leadership skills on display.

Thought for the Week Thought for the Week

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak,
but their echoes are truly endless.”
St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa)

Let us remember that even the smallest acts of kindness
can make a big difference in someone’s day.
May we choose words that uplift, encourage, and bring joy to others.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the upcoming WA Day public holiday on Monday week, 1 June.

May God bless you

UNIFORM SHOP UNIFORM SHOP

Volunteer

A big thanks to Jess Butcher and Honor Putland for all their help in the uniform shop. We are looking for another volunteer who is able to cover the uniform shop for 1/2 hour on a Tuesday from 8.30am for times when Jess is unavailable. Please contact the office if you are able to help.

Crosswalk Attendant Crosswalk Attendant

The paid position of crosswalk attendant has still not been filled. We have many students who walk or ride to school, and need to cross Cape Naturaliste Road each day. Their safety is a great concern for us. Until an attendant is appointed, we will endeavour to provide school staff to attend the crossing. Please note that students who ride their bikes to school will need to wait for supervision before walking their bikes when on school grounds to get to the crossing.

We are working closely with the Dunsborough Police to promote the position and would appreciate your assistance in spreading the word if you know of anyone who would be available.

For more information you can contact the Children's Crossing Unit on (08) 6274 8731 or email on childrenscrossingsunitsmail@police.wa.gov.au.

We thoroughly enjoyed the events held 2 weeks ago as we celebrated all Mothers & Carers of Our Lady of the Cape children.

Thank you to Year 1 Class Reps and Families for organising and providing sweet and savoury plates for a really delicious morning tea. We had over 75 Mothers & Carers attend this morning tea and so pleasing to see Fathers and Grandfathers also in attendance. It was a really lovely occasion to bring our school community together sharing morning tea and a cuppa.

Thank you to Carly Cooper Hair for providing the Lucky Door Prize and congratulations to the lucky winner, Fiona Lauder.

Bus Shelter Bus Shelter

For those OLC children who catch the bus, a weather protected bus shelter has been a much-needed structure, especially as the winter rain sets in or the scorching sun in summer. This project has been on our funding Wishlist since the start of the year and we are so excited to announce that funding has been raised and allocated to the construction of this bus shelter. We look forward to seeing this construction take shape over the coming months.

We are excited to announce the details of the 2026 School Disco. The Disco will be held on Friday 19th June and will be a really fun event for all year groups, Pre-Kindy to Year 6.

National Volunteer Week National Volunteer Week

The 18 to 24 May marks National Volunteer Week with this years focus on ‘YOUR YEAR TO VOLUNTEER’.

Volunteering has so many benefits and reaffirms that giving is better than receiving. We have so many generous families of Our Lady of the Cape children who give their spare time to support our essential community services. Our community is a better place for our children for the willingness of local families to volunteer and give their spare time. We thank all families who volunteer at Auskick, Soccer, Footy, Basketball, Netball, Firefighters, Paramedics and many more, we sincerely thank you for all you do.

In honour of these legends, this Father’s & Carer’s Day in September we will be appreciating and paying tribute to Our Lady of the Cape families of legends who volunteer their spare time to our essential community services.

WE NEED YOUR INVOLVEMENT…We are inviting Our Lady of the Cape families, their child/children, Fathers, Carers, Grandfathers who volunteer their spare time to the essential running of our community, to be photographed doing their chosen volunteer role and feature in our 2027 Calendar of Family Volunteers of Our Lady of the Cape Primary School.

We hope to feature as many OLC families as we can and celebrate these legends who give their time connecting and giving back to our community.

We also invite children of OLC to create artwork drawings for the front cover of the calendar. These drawings can be of a family member, family friend or someone they know volunteering in their chosen role. Drawings can be created on white A4 paper landscape orientation and can be provided to the school office.

We are excited to create this calendar which will be released at the Father’s & Carer’s Day Breakfast on Friday 4 September and can be purchased for $30 with pre-orders NOW OPEN.

Please see the following poster for further details.
