Breaking Down the Wall - by Margarita Calderon, Maria Dove 2019

Review by Dr. Gabrielle Devlin

gdevlin@d75.org

This past month I have been reading a professional book to support our multilingual students, teachers, and families. Breaking Down the Wall: Essential Shifts for English Learners’ Success. I recommend this book if you are looking for a strengths based resource to support your multilingual students.

Each chapter is written by a different pair of authors, so the ideas and suggestions are diverse. My favorite part was the “Essential Actions” in each chapter. There are great tables and figures in the book, and even more resources at this website. My favorite table included ideas on how to support ML families.

If you are interested in reading this book, I can send you a copy and we can read it together!

December Poll Update

We asked - What's a super power you wish you had? Clearly, we all want the ability to get away quickly, because 47% of you said you wanted the ability to fly. Speaking of being able to get away, in second place, 40% of you said you wanted the power to be invisible.
