James and the Giant Peach WINS SETC!
We are so proud of the hardworking cast and crew of “James and the Giant Peach” for representing the state of Kentucky at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Chattanooga TN and winning Best Overall Production!
It was such an honor to be recognized out of 20 beautiful shows representing 10 different states and so fun to get to see these students shine onstage and off! This is only the 4th time the state of Kentucky has won the festival and the 3rd time that Lafayette has won!
Along with best production we also had students winning acting and tech awards! We are so proud of them and their hard work being celebrated on the national stage!
Every year Lafayette Theatre inducts new members into our Thespians Troupe which is a chapter of The International Thespian Society! This is an honors society that celebrates student involvement in theatre at their school and in the community. Students that are a part of this troupe are eligible to run for leadership positions, attend the annual Kentucky Thespians Festival, and attend regular meetings!!
The International Thespian Society (ITS), founded in 1929, is an honorary organization for high school students located at more than 4,200 affiliated secondary schools across America, Canada, and abroad. The mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theatre arts. High school inductees are known as Thespians.
Students interested in applying to a part of the troupe are encouraged to attend our Thespian Meeting THIS THURSDAY before school March 26th in Ms. K's room! During this meeting Ms. K and our thespian officers will go over the requirements and how to fill out the point sheet! All applications are due April 3rd! The link to applications is HERE!
Current Thespians need to update their point sheets to reflect what activities they have done this year, updated sheets are also due April 3rd!
Musical Madness is Coming SOON!
In just a few weeks we will have a bracket of 32 possible musicals posted on the bulletin board across the hall from room 120! Students, friends, family, and staff will all have a chance to submit a bracket to try and predict our 2027 Lafayette Musical! If you are an alumni wanting to play, we will also accept digital submissions sent in to Ms. Gorrell at cassady.gorrell@fayette.kyschools.us
Each week we will announce which shows are progressing to the next round along with sharing a leaderboard out with everyone on social media! We will announce the champion at Thespian Induction on May 13th!
Monologues and Picture Books - Intro and Theatre 2 Updates!
Our Theatre 2 class is working on creating engaging picture book performances using operative words, tactics, and vocal expression! They are reading alone or in small groups, giving peer feedback, and using rehearsal time to refine their performances. Before spring break we will be sharing our picture books with elementary schoolers from Picadome! After spring break we will be beginning rehearsal for our ten minute plays that will perform on May 14th at 6:00 pm!
Our SCAPA Juniors and Seniors, Theatre 3, and Theatre 4 classes are all currently working on completely student-produced class plays! These offer a fantastic opportunity for students to collaborate and lead while creating a fully realized performance in Beeler Auditorium at the end of the year.
Students are currently blocking their shows and reviewing the design elements needed to bring the show to life because they will serve not only as technicians, but performers! Tickets for all class plays are linked HERE!
