8th Grade Meetings
The counselors are continuing to meet with each 8th grade student to begin their career and academic plan, as well as review their 9th grade course selections. From what we have heard so far, it looks like many students in the Class of 2028 have high interests in diverse fields, such as medicine, business, building trades, aerospace engineering, and criminal justice.
Career Day Speaker
In February, 7th grade students had a wonderful opportunity to hear from a former Oley Valley student, Andrew Kline. Mr. Kline discussed his experiences in college, his work in the engineering field, and his trip overseas to Uganda. While in Uganda, Mr. Kline put his skills to practice, working with other engineering students to assist in developing and building waterway systems to improve access to fresh water. Mr. Kline is currently completing his degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University.

8th Grade BCTC visits
Traditionally, 8th grade students have the opportunity to tour the BCTC East Campus as a group in late spring.
On Monday April 29, 2024, all 8th Grade students will attend in-person visits to tour the BCTC East Campus. While on this trip, students will have the opportunity to explore several programs at the Career Center and walk the grounds of the campus.
We will distribute a field trip permission form to all 8th grade students after returning from spring break - please be on the lookout for the field trip permission form and return the completed form to the MS Guidance Office no later than April 22nd.
Naviance
OVSD students and faculty use Naviance for a variety of important functions, such as exploring careers and colleges, requesting letters of recommendations, submitting student records for college applications, signing up for college rep visits, and seeking local and national scholarship opportunities.
At the middle school level, exploration is key. We encourage all students and parents to check out the Career tab in Naviance and hop aboard the Roadtrip Nation where thousands of videos focusing on different career paths are housed. It is important for students to familiarize themselves with Naviance at the MS level and increase their comfort level with the platform.

As a reminder, the following information can be found in the OVMS Course Catalog:
GRADE-LEVEL PROMOTION
In order to be promoted to the next grade level, a student must earn a passing grade in EACH of the 4 core subjects: English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, and Social Studies. Students who fail to reach a final average of 65% or higher in ANY of these core subjects will be required to repeat the grade level the following school year. Parents are responsible for all costs associated with online summer credit recovery courses. Online summer credit recovery courses must be completed by August 15th.
Aevidum
After celebrating World Kindness Day, having an act of kindness every day in February, and sending positive messages to everyone in the school, Aevidum is now turning its attention on mental health awareness. Aevidum will be actively finding ways to bring the importance of mental health and well-being to the forefront during the months of March and April. Look out for some fun surprises ahead.

PSSAs are coming up in late April! We are preparing now for a successful testing process. Please reach out to Dr. Rohrer with any questions or concerns regarding PSSAs.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS IN GRADES 8-11: OVHS will no longer be mailing paper copies of student schedules in June . Student schedules for the upcoming year will only be posted in the Infinite Campus Portal.
In late June, a SchoolMessenger announcement will go out alerting parents and students that schedules are available for viewing. Parents and students will still have until the first Monday in August to request schedule changes. More information on how to make a change request will be forthcoming.
Over the next few months, we ask that all parents and students take a moment to check their Infinite Campus Portal for accessibility. If you need assistance logging in, please contact the main office at the MS.
