A Word From Our Principal Mr. Agee A Word From Our Principal Mr. Agee

As the final days of the school year blossom, so does our May newsletter, brimming with important dates and celebrations! We've had a fantastic year of learning and growth at Pacific Intermediate, and we're excited to share some key events as we head towards summer break.

Mark your calendars! Our talented 6th-grade band will showcase their musical achievements on Sunday, May 4th, at 2:30 PM at Pacific High School. Come out and support these amazing young musicians!

For our students who have demonstrated outstanding effort this trimester, the Third Trimester Reward Dance will be held on Friday, May 9th, from the end of the school day until 4:15 PM. Invitations for this fun event will be sent home soon.

Sweet treats are on the way! Students who earned the library's Kona Ice reward will receive their icy delight on Friday, May 2nd. Congratulations to these avid readers!

We'll also be celebrating our students' hard work with the Breakfast of Champions on Wednesday, May 14th, starting at 7:00 AM. Invitations for this special breakfast will be sent to qualifying students.

Get ready for some outdoor fun! Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 16th. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in comfortable, school-appropriate attire suitable for a day of physical activity outdoors.

The countdown is on – the last day of school will be Thursday, May 22nd, and students will be dismissed at noon.

Looking ahead to the summer, summer school will begin on Monday, June 2nd. Students who have accumulated four or more failing grades across the trimesters will likely be required to attend credit recovery at Riverbend Middle School. Determinations regarding required attendance will be made during the last week of May. We are also excited to offer Summer Discovery, a non-required summer school program for our incoming 5th and 6th graders, right here at PI!

Our 5th-grade students have exciting field trips to the Transportation Museum planned for the end of May, organized by tribe. Meanwhile, our 6th graders will be heading to Main Event on Thursday, May 1st, for their field trip.

As we wrap up the year, we also conclude our MAP testing on Friday, May 9th. Your support in ensuring your child gets adequate sleep and arrives at school on time during this important period is greatly appreciated.

Finally, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our parents and guardians for your incredible support, partnership, and encouragement throughout this school year. Your involvement has been invaluable to the success of our students and our school community. We truly appreciate your dedication!

Have a strong finish to the year!

Math Math

Dear Families,

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, our math class will be focusing on two key units: multiplying and dividing decimals. These are important skills that help students make sense of real-world math, from money to measurement and beyond.

In addition, we’ll be reviewing the major concepts we've covered this year as students prepare for and complete MAP testing. This review time is essential for reinforcing their understanding and building confidence.

How You Can Help at Home:

Please encourage your child to complete and return their homework daily. These assignments directly support the skills we’re practicing in class and are a great way to prepare for assessments.

Continued practice of multiplication facts and basic computation skills at home is also highly beneficial. Even a few minutes a day makes a difference!

We truly appreciate your ongoing support as we work together to help your child finish the year strong. Thank you!

Language Arts & Reading Language Arts & Reading

Can you believe the school year is almost over? Our students have been working hard all year to get ready for 6th grade! We recently wrapped up our poetry unit and have been focusing on strengthening reading and writing skills in preparation for MAP testing.

As summer approaches, we encourage you to help your child continue practicing these important skills. Simple activities like reading directions while cooking or making a shopping list are great (and fun!) ways to keep their reading and writing sharp over the break.

Thank you for your continued support—we're so proud of all the progress students have made this year!

English students just finished up their research presentation and shared them with their classmates. Next, students will be focusing on comprehension activities to review important skills learned this year. Our final project will be a Choose Your Own Adventure project where they can create multiple storylines for their classmates to follow.

6th Grade Math: Mrs. Voss & Mrs. Weil
As we wrap up the year, we will continue to practice our math skills. We will be learning different types of graphs while finishing our school year review. Please make sure your child is completing their assignments on a nightly basis. We have thoroughly enjoyed having your child in class this year.

6th Grade Science: Ms. Griffin & Mrs. Todahl
We just wrapped up our Plate Tectonics chapter and are finishing the year exploring volcanoes and earthquakes. Students are learning how Earth's movements shape the surface in powerful ways.

6th Grade Social Studies: Mr. Effan & Mr. Slaughter
We will be starting our last chapter, which is a mixture of Ancient Africa and Islam. We will also be preparing for our finals in the final weeks of school.

In reading class, we just completed our second novel of the year, The Unwanteds. We will continue to read in our textbook Unit 5 "Surviving the Unthinkable". 6th Grade Odyssey: Ms. Shearin

Odyssey students will research different mechanics of gaming and game creation to come up with a game of their own that their friends can play.

Ms. Diamond and Ms. Speicher Ms. Diamond and Ms. Speicher

Hello PI families!

Can you believe it is May and almost the end of the school year? This year has flown by. We only have a few things to do before we wrap it up, and get ready to enjoy summer. Students have started MAP testing and we are excited for them to show us how much they have learned this year. Additionally, students and staff are reminding ourselves that the last few weeks of school are important to achieving goals and students maintaining or improving their grades.

MAP testing is winding up to a full swing. Fifth graders started MAP testing on Tuesday, April 29th and will test from 8:10 - 9:40am for nine days. Our 6th graders will start their assessments on Tuesday, May 6th and will test from 7:45 - 9:45am for three days. Ask your student how testing has been for them so far and encourage them to do their best! Both 5th and 6th graders will be assessed in Language Arts and Math. 5th graders will additionally be tested in Science. Your continued assistance in getting your child to eat breakfast, get plenty of sleep, and arrive at school on time is greatly appreciated.

The last day of school for students is Thursday, May 22nd and students will be dismissed at noon. May is a busy time of year as many students will be completing projects, testing, and saying goodbye to friends for the summer. We also have many fun activities to look forward to this month such as field day! Through all of the excitement it is important you are able to encourage your students that even though the year is almost over, the last few weeks are very important to their grades. Try to help them stay on track with their classes, homework, tests, and effort. For those students doing well, working hard the remaining weeks will allow them to maintain their grades. Working hard the last few weeks for those struggling can make the difference between a passing grade, failing grade, and for a few mandatory summer school.

The counseling department has loved working with your students this year. We see their growth and abilities daily! Our 6th graders are ready to move onto Riverbend for more responsibility and privileges. They will be missed. 5th graders welcome to 6th grade! You came into our school nervous about merging with other elementary schools and having more responsibilities. Now you are confident and ready to take on the 6th grade student leadership role at PI. We will see you again in August.

Enjoy your time with your families spending relaxed time together, having fun and creating memories.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jeanne Diamond
