Important Student Absence Information! Please read and register your child in Schoology
With this year being a little different than any before, we are constantly trying to improve our procedures to make things as simple as possible for you and your student(s). That being said, we have come up with a new way to ensure that your student gets attendance credit for any day that they miss school, but are at home still working!
In Schoology, your student will need to go to “Courses”, listed at the top of the page, and click on “NES ATTENDANCE”. From there, click on their grade, and then open the pdf. Doing this will ensure that your student gets attendance credit for that day. Please be aware that if your student it out multiple days, you will need to follow this process DAILY. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Kaci at the front desk, 512-268-8501, and/or email nes.attendance@hayscisd.net.
We know rest is best when your student is not feeling well, so if your student is not up to doing any work due to illness, please be sure to email nes.attendance@hayscisd.net so we can code the absence correctly!

Daily Health Checks
TEMPERATURE CHECK
*Asking your child how they are feeling
*Look at their face and eyes! This is the FIRST thing we look at when a child is sent to the nurse. Their little eyes will tell you how they are feeling way before symptoms often begin.
If they do not feel well, PLEASE do not send them to school. They can meet with their teacher virtually. If they feel better later in the morning, bring them on in!
Would you like to make a little extra money and receive a LOT of joy as well? We can Help!

IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE LAST YEAR'S HOUSE CUP WINNER - PRAESIDIO!!
When: November 20th @1:30pm; Virtual Praesidio in cars can line up around 1:15pm in the car rider line. A map is attached for reference.
Where: Praesidio in person will go to the front of the school and cheer from the sidelines while virtual Praesidio will be riding in cars and cheering from their vehicles. There is a map attached to this email for the parade route.
Who: Praesidio in person students will be socially distanced in the front of the school with Praesidio teachers. Virtual Praesidio students will be in the parade along with community support. Sport that yellow!!!
What: Students and cars should be decked out in yellow! Get creative! Students will have spirit gear to wave and Rice Krispy treats for a snack. Our local first responders will lead the way for the house that represents safety. Students will be cheering with horns honking! Let’s show these kids how proud we are for all their hard work!
*November 20 is a Safari spirit dress up day at school. Tell those Praesidio to pack their shirt and yellow gear. That way they can still participate by quickly changing like the true super heroes they are.
Why: Our Praesidio students worked hard last year and earned the highest point total at the end. They earned these points by going above and beyond expectation. They represented our school well and now it is their time to shine!
Spread the word, find your yellow, and get ready to HONK THOSE HORNS!!!
IT'S SOCKTOBER TIME!! LAST WEEK FOR DONATIONS!
Our sock and underwear drive has begun! Last year we donated over 1500! So let's get those new socks and undies brought in.
In person students will bring their new sock and underwear donations to Ms. Rodriguez's classroom to receive a HOUSE POINT!
Virtual students will bring their new sock and underwear donations on Library pickup days - either Monday or Friday. Virtual students will also receive a HOUSE POINT for bringing in donations!
DONATIONS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THANKSGIVING BREAK!

Nuggets from Nurse Jill
Hello Navigators and Parents!
As we enter the second 9 weeks, I wanted to send a reminder about COVID policy for campus.
Due to the pandemic and maintaining student, teacher and staff safety we are required by the district and TEA to stick to strict policy and procedures regarding when an ill student can return to campus.
Our goal is to get students back to campus as quickly and as safely as possible. When your student is kept home for illness or is sent home from the school, there are 3 options to choose from to return to campus.
Pick ONE option:
- 10 days self-isolation since symptoms began AND improvement in symptoms AND 24 hours fever free (without the use of fever reducing medication) *ALL 3 must be met with this option.
- The student is cleared by a physician to return to school with an alternate diagnosis listed on the doctor’s note OR a statement explaining they have no concern for COVID. Also, symptoms must be improved or resolved for 24 hours.
- The student has had a negative PCR test result indicating symptoms were not due to COVID-19. A rapid antigen test will NOT be accepted. Also, symptoms must be improved or resolved for 24 hours.
Curative is offering FREE COVID testing. This is a mouth swab test that the district is accepting results from for return to school. See the flyer here for locations and to schedule an appointment.
Because Hays County is considered to be an area of high-community spread, parents must ensure they do not send a child to campus if the child has any ONE of the following COVID-19 symptoms:
* Temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth
* Sore throat
* Congestion or runny nose
* New, uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing or for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline.
* Diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, or abdominal pain
* New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
* New loss of taste or smell
* New onset of fatigue or muscle/body aches
If your child has any one of the above symptoms, is lab-confirmed with COVID-19 OR has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results, do not send him/her to campus and contact me. Please also do not send your child to school if a household member has tested positive or is awaiting COVID-19 test results.
Campus nurses are your point of contact for all things related to COVID so please reach out if you have questions.

Taking a mindful moment
IT’S COUNSELOR COFFEE CHAT TIME!!

CAREER DAY!
Yes, we will still have career day but we are thinking outside of the box! We would love to see and hear what you do! If interested, please complete the attached. We will send you some questions and ask that you record a very short 2-3 minute video of yourself. These will be QR coded and placed around the school and tada….. virtual career day! It is a great opportunity for all students to see what you do, where you work, how you got there! We hope you can join us!

GUIDANCE AND GROUPS!
In class guidance lessons are being offered to all students pk-5. In addition, Ms. K and Ms. Winn are working with teachers to provide lessons through zoom to our virtual learners. Below you will find the first three topics. In addition, don’t hesitate to utilize the SEL portion of Schoology for additional self-directed lessons, including excellent additional support through Cloud 9. Due to covid protocols, “groups” will look very different. Students will be “check in” only, until some of the precautions are lifted. We want the safety of all students to be priority. Outside mentors, volunteers, and counselors are currently not permitted on campus. However, if you would be interested in MENTORING a student virtually, through zoom, please reach out to me! Mentoring takes 30 minutes a week, can happen during lunchtime, or other times arranged by the teacher. At this time you might play virtual games, tell jokes, draw together, talk, or read together. Studies show that students with mentors are more likely to graduate, are happier in school, are more successful . We’d love to have you. Just email the counselor!

It's Gifted and Talented (GT) referral time!
Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication. These skills are often evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity. Furthermore, these skills are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment.
Hays CISD campuses will accept referrals for gifted and talented services from November 2-30, 2020. Referrals can be made in two different ways. The first option is to complete an online referral atTHIS LINK. The second option is to complete a paper referral. Copies of the paper referral form are available in the front office of each campus and should be returned to the campus counselor.
There will also be three opportunities to learn more about the GT program, referrals and the testing process. If you are interested, please choose a zoom link below that best meets your needs. See you there!

Library News from Ms. Tierney
This week starts our Online Scholastic Book Fair! It runs for two weeks and it’s just in time to do Holiday Shopping! The Fair begins on Monday, November 16 and ends Sunday, November 29. Here is the link to shop beginning on Monday. Orders over $25 offer free shipping. Your student will be hearing more about it during library class this week and will bring home the paper flyer highlighting some of the books for sale at the Fair.
Library Reminders:
- If your child just returned to school from Virtual Learning and he/she borrowed a device, please send those devices back to school and be sure to include the chargers.
- If you have overdue books from last school year, please send those back ASAP.
- Library is now on a six day, A-F rotation, meaning it will fall on a different day of the week each week (unlike the first 9 weeks when it was on a specific day, M-F consistently).
- To help you and your child remember his/her library book(s) each week, I will send an email reminder the night before his/her library day. NOTE: It’s just a reminder, if your child is NOT done with the book, he/she can renew it without bringing the book(s) back in under he/she is done with it.
- VIRTUAL LEARNERS: I will continue to have Curbside Library on Mondays and Fridays but I will only be outside to come to deliver to your car on Friday afternoons from 3:30-4:30. If you come to pick up on Mondays, you will need to come into the entranceway of the school to take the books (clearly labeled with student’s name) off the cart marked, “Curbside Library Pick-Up”.
- Gator Reader Program, a program that encourages students to read with their parents often. The goal is to read 100 books together over the course of the year. Once your kindergartener finishes one sheet, he/she will turn it in, get a small prize and get a new recording sheet. When they complete all 4 sheets, they will have read 100 books and receive the official GATOR READER T-shirt! Here is a link to the letter and recording log.
- You can always check out the library website for great resources as well. Have a great week and you can always email me if you have any questions, Colleen.Tierney@hayscisd.net.

TRANSPORTATION TAGS
ALL FAMILIES WILL NEED A TRANSPORTATION TAG IF THEY WILL BE PICKING UP THEIR CHILD FROM CAMPUS.
These tags are super important for picking up your child at dismissal. Each family has a distinct number - it is your family number. Instead of calling out your child's name for all to hear, we call your family number. Each family will receive 2 cards and 3 round discs that need to be attached to your child's backpack. If you need extras for another adult that may be picking up your child , just let our Receptionist, Ms. Goodman know when she gives you your original. There will be a $1.00 charge for extra cards OR to replace a lost card after this initial pick up. This fee is to help us with replacement materials. So - the first ones are FREE, but later on there will be the small charge.
PLEASE EMAIL MS. GOODMAN TO SCHEDULE A TIME TO PICK UP YOUR TRANSPORTATION TAGS or STOP BY THE RECEPTION AREA.
If you are picking up your child in the car rider line, these tags can hang from your passenger side visor using a rubber band or from your rearview mirror. It makes it easy for us to see and call your number. If you do not have your car tag, you will be asked to drive to the front office and present your ID in order to pick up your child.
If you are walking to the school to pick up your child, you will need to show your tag to your child's teacher OR the teacher on duty. They will check the number on the card with the tag attached to your child's backpack before releasing your student to you.
