Volume 5/Issue 27 - February 22nd, 2026
End of February and on to March
We are a culture obsessed with the highlight reel. We see the viral success, the sold-out launch, and the polished finished product, and we call it 'talent.' But talent is just the tip of the iceberg. The truth is that mastery is forged in the hours that don't make it to Instagram—the repetitive, boring, and often lonely work that happens when the cameras are off. As Muhammad Ali famously put it..."The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road long before I dance under those lights."

Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
Kindness goes a long way...
Good morning!
Welcome to the final week of February! It has been quite a ride—from the "Plague of 2026" to the high-stakes energy of district and state competitions. This month has been a total rollercoaster, swinging from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other. I have the privilege of having the best seat in the house when it comes to watching our students, "speechletes," administration, teachers, and coaches. I get to witness the everyday miracles in our hallways and see these individuals do exactly what they love.
Even though I have an "idea" of what they are going through, I can’t truly know the exact mindset, the lost sleep, or the weight they carry. What I do witness is the endless work to make a moment perfect. We see the jersey on game night, but we don’t see the shift at a side job worked until midnight. We see the grade on the paper, but we don't see the 1:00 AM study session that happened after a four-hour bus ride back from an away game. Whether it’s practices that start at 6:00 AM, the after-hours sessions of "talking to walls," or the grueling prep for an FFA/FBLA event, there is an entire world of sacrifice behind the scenes that the public never sees.
As Muhammad Ali famously said:
"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses—behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights."
Whether you are a student staring at a screen at 2:00 AM finishing homework, a teacher refining a lesson plan for the tenth time, or a coach analyzing film while the rest of the world sleeps, people will always have an opinion. It is easy to criticize from the sidelines where the air is comfortable and the stakes are low. Critics see a snapshot of a "failure" and mistake it for the whole story. But they aren’t in the gym. They don’t see the incremental progress, the tired eyes, or the character being built in the quiet moments of persistence.
The beautiful part? That invisible work belongs entirely to you. No one can take away the discipline you’ve cultivated or the grit you’ve earned when no one was looking. When you finally "dance under those lights"—be it a graduation stage, a championship game, or a classroom breakthrough—you’ll realize that the moment wasn't a stroke of luck. It was an inevitability.
In the end, we should take a step back and appreciate what we are witnessing. It will never be perfect, and there will always be outsiders who believe it could be better. But to say we don’t have people who care—who wouldn't sacrifice their own time and resources to see a student succeed—is simply not true. Before the lights of competition, there are the endless "silent" hours of preparation. Let’s continue to applaud and stand with each other.
Have a great rest of your week!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights."
Muhammad Ali
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
