Dear Families,

We have a packed 4 day week for students at Ecole Maple, so don't forget that Friday November 22nd is a PA Day!

We have our lunch time clubs continuing in full swing again this week! See the week ahead below for the details. We also have our Girls Volleyball Tournament on Monday November 18th at BGC, and the Boys Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday November 20th at the same location. Good luck to both teams. GO MAPLE!

On Tuesday November 19th, we are fortunate to continue our learning around the life and challenges of military families with a special reading to our grade 1 students in both French and English, hosted by the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research.

Please keep sending in Cheerios boxes (nut free) in support of The Food Sharing Project in memory of Brady Faroldi. This project aims at ensuring all students at school start the day with a good breakfast. Thank you Maple community!

Thursday November 21st will be Pink Shirt Day at our school to recognize Anti-Bullying and Bullying Prevention Week!

Please see our 'looking ahead' section below to see what's coming up over the next few weeks as well!

Have a great week!

From the Ecole Maple Team!

This past wee 56 of our grade 4 student leader representatives from student council visited every class community to deliver posters that will be displayed in Maple's classrooms. The posters include our promise to build our connection with the land in all four seasons and a picture of the orange heart art installation the school community created on Orange Shirt Day. These posters serve as a reminder of our school commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

To help gauge numbers so we can appropriately staff a canteen, including pizza, snacks, and drinks, we ask those interested in attending to fill out the following survey. The doors to the gym will open at 6:15, and we ask all those in attendance to leave shortly after the movie to allow the staff to clean up. We look forward to seeing you there.

NEW for Maple: Established Meet-Up Locations for Walkers NEW for Maple: Established Meet-Up Locations for Walkers

In collaboration with the City of Kingston and KFL&A, Ecole Maple is excited to offer an opportunity for families to access established meet up locations for their student (s) who are walking from the neighbourhood indicated on the meet up location map. Families may decide to walk with the group, or set up a network where this could be scheduled with other families in the neighbourhood. At the end of the school day, students can also access the meet up location at the Gazebo for their walk home. As indicated, there is the advantage of increased safety when traveling in numbers as well as an opportunity to make friends and build community.

Why Use the SchoolMessenger App?

When you join SchoolMessenger, you will be able to:

  • receive imporant information from LDSB
  • join classrooms and extra-curricular groups
  • report a student's absence (same day and in advance)

Reporting A Student's Absence:

The new student absence reporting system will let you use a mobile app, a website, or an interactive toll-free phone number to report an absence in advance. These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.

If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our new SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up.
