Principal's News

On Tuesday, Brian Williams visited Martinson and taught us all about being kind and being brave. Students heard his message and began finding different ways that they can show kindness to others. We will be sending home information about a shoe drive that will help spread kindness to many people in the world. Thank you to the PTO for arranging this wonderful enrichment program!

Think Kindness Shoe Drive Challenge

On Tuesday the students were treated to an energetic visit from Brian Williams, founder of Think Kindness. Martinson students pledged to make 5,000 acts of kindness in the next 15 days!

During the program the students learned that 300 million children go barefoot every day and sneakers are a requirement to attend school. Martinson students went above-and-beyond and committed to stretch their kindness impact across the globe by participating in Think Kindness’ Shoe Drive Challenge.

Shoe Drive Video Summary

How it works:

  • Students will be collecting new or gently used sneakers. Sneakers only and all sizes are accepted. If they have laces, tie the shoes together.

  • Drop donations in the box located in the lobby.

  • Think Kindness’ team will provide prepaid shipping bags.

  • Martinson will receive photos and videos indicating where the shoes are donated.

Documentary: Brian’s team produced a documentary called Inspire Hope that showcases the impact a simple pair of shoes has on a child around the world. It starts off in a school assembly and follows the journey of a single act of kindness. Some of the material may be too mature for grades K-5. Inspire Hope Documentary

Nurse's Notes

Happy Holidays...Tis the season for colds and flu!

Elementary aged children can easily spread and pick up germs and viruses. If your child has developed symptoms or has been sent home from school with symptoms that are of a concern, such as Flu (seasonal or Covid), Strep Throat or Hand Foot and Mouth aka HFM or Coxsackie virus, which are all communicable illnesses, please contact your Pediatrician for advice and /or evaluation before returning to school.

Checklist for returning to school:

· Must be symptom free / fever free - without the aid of any over the counter medications such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil)

· Slept well the night before (fatigue or sleep deprivation may have a negative effect on your child's ability to successfully get through the day)

· Eaten a healthy breakfast- being hungry can lead to stomach aches, headaches and fatigue

· Well hydrated-dehydration can lead to headaches as well as contributing to illnesses

A Dr's note documenting illness and /or medical evaluation must be provided to school in order to medically excuse any absences

Please Notify Nurse Mudge if your child has been diagnosed with any communicable illnesses, such as strep / covid / seasonal flu or has any prolonged absences due to illness.

Eating a good balance of healthy foods is strongly recommended, please remember to send in a healthy snack for a midday break (please avoid chips and cookies- which can lead to blood sugar spikes and belly aches)

As the climate changes and we head into Winter months, please be sure your child comes to school with winter gear for outside recess and breaks

Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to prevent dehydration and skin irritations and /or chapped lips.

If you have any questions, please call Nurse Mudge at MES (781) 319-3985

Our next meeting is January 10, 2023! We will discuss all that we have coming up in late winter and spring (SO MUCH) and hear a presentation on Title 1 services.

Kindness counts for so much, in this and every season, so PTO extends our thanks to all of our families who donate their time and finances to make our events and experiences for our MES community successful. Our Cards and Cocoa event yielded hundreds of beautiful cards that will help spread cheer at hospitals and nursing homes this holiday season! Our recent enrichment presentation furthered the message as the kids learned to be “Kindness Ninjas!”

Here are two more quick and easy ways to spread some cheer and help the PTO and our business partners this season:

Visit the Marshfield light show! It is quite a sight this year! Purchase tickets from our unique link and we’ll get $2 from each ticket purchased —> https://bit.ly/3DEYc9I
