Hello 8th Grade Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you enjoyed the extended weekend honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. As we begin this shortened week, I want to highlight a few important reminders to help ensure your student's success.

Please note that tomorrow is an E-Learning Half Day for students, continuing our modified schedule for this week. Looking ahead, your student's regular attendance is more crucial than ever as we strive to reach our 95% attendance goal. We consistently see the positive impact of regular attendance on student achievement and engagement – every day truly counts!

With winter in full swing, please ensure your student comes prepared with appropriate outdoor clothing for recess, as we head outside when temperatures are above 20 degrees. Additionally, helping your student develop good habits like charging their iPad nightly and arriving to school on time sets them up for a productive day of learning.

As we have several significant dates approaching on our calendar, I encourage you to read through this entire newsletter carefully. Your engagement with school communications helps us maintain a strong partnership in supporting your student's education. If you have any questions or wonderings following our newsletter, as always, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Best,

Ms. Ernvall

🌅 Morning Mentors Has Begun!! 🌅 🌅 Morning Mentors Has Begun!! 🌅

Nichols Middle School is offering a free morning tutoring program for all interested students called Morning Mentors. Nichols staff and Northwestern students will provide tutoring in all subject areas. This is a great opportunity for students to be provided with homework help, re-teaching of lessons and general study skills. Acceptance into the program is a two fold - first come, first served basis along with a continuous attendance expectation.

Sessions will be held at Nichols Middle School, in the library, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025. Sessions will run from 7:15-7:50 am. Light breakfast snacks will be provided free of charge. Students may also get breakfast from the cafeteria and bring it to the program. We are currently accepting seven students per day and due to the limited space, we are also limiting each student to one day per week. We ask that parents speak to their child(ren) and classroom teachers to determine exactly how much support is required. Please keep in mind, our goal is to serve as many students as possible.
