Dear KMS Families,

Our next round of MAP testing will take place this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. During these three days, we will follow a modified bell schedule to provide students with the time and focus needed for successful testing. The updated schedule will appear directly below this message for your reference.

Please remind students to get plenty of rest and fully charge their iPads each night before testing. A charged device helps prevent interruptions and allows students to do their best. If possible, eat a filling breakfast before school starts, whether at home or in the KMS Commons starting at 8:20am.

Also, with winter weather now underway, please keep an eye on the KIBSD website and district Facebook pages for any updates on delays or weather related changes. If there is a delay, families will also receive an automated message at the phone numbers on file.

Thank you for your support as we work to ensure a smooth and successful testing week for all students.

Judith Bruns, Assistant Principal

MR. SIMPLER'S CULTURE QUEST CLASS: NYO EXPERIENCE

Students in Mr. Simpler’s Culture Quest class recently enjoyed a special learning experience focused on Native Youth Olympics. Megan Ellis from KANA Wellness and Prevention brought a team to support our students, and Owen Magnuson, last year’s NYO team captain from KHS, joined us along with Noah for live demonstrations of several NYO events.

Tania Sylva Johnson helped coordinate the visit, provided students with a brief history and the cultural importance of NYO, and led classes through an authentic NYO warm up. Mrs. Monte and Mr. Gramata’s PE classes also joined in, making it a shared learning opportunity across multiple grade levels.

We appreciate everyone who contributed to this meaningful and engaging experience for our students.

Dear Families and Caregivers,

We are reaching out in partnership with our school staff with an important request. Over the past several months, our school has experienced ongoing vandalism in the student restrooms. Despite repeated repairs and increased supervision, the damage continues, and it is becoming harder for the school to manage the financial and staff impact. Additionally, having to close the bathroom to clean the vandalism is unfair to the hundreds of students who do the right thing.

As many of you know, school budgets across the district are tighter than ever.

Every dollar spent repairing restroom fixtures, like soap or paper towel dispensers, and cleaning or covering graffiti is a dollar that cannot be used for enrichment opportunities, classroom resources, and staff support. All of these things directly benefit our students’ learning and well‑being.

To address this continuing issue, the PTSA is issuing a call to action for parent volunteers. We are asking parents and guardians to stop in at any time during the school day to help monitor the restrooms. Even brief drop‑ins can make a meaningful difference. Coverage during lunch periods periods would be especially helpful, as these are the times when the most staff members have other specific duties. Your mere presence, even for a few minutes, can support a safer and more respectful environment for all students. Working together will help reduce unnecessary repair costs and allow more funds to be directed toward programs that benefit our school community.

If you are able to help, please check in at the front office when you arrive. There is no long term commitment, and any amount of time is appreciated. Volunteer link, if you aren't already cleared: https://www.kibsd.org/volunteers/

Thank you for your continued support. When families and schools work together, our students thrive.

Sincerely,
The KMS PTSA
