Principal's Message

It has been a busy fall at Iron Ridge Secondary Campus, with plenty happening in our classrooms and across our school community. Our student athletes have represented IRSC in volleyball, football, and cross country, and we are proud of their effort and commitment. Congratulations to our cross country runners who competed at Provincials!

Students are also finding ways to connect and contribute beyond athletics. Our new Books & Bagels club brings readers together, while our K&E students are supporting the Helping Herd Fund through their lunchtime canteen. These opportunities help students build relationships, explore their interests, and make a positive difference for others.

As we move further into the semester, I encourage families to review their student’s progress together through ParentPortal. Celebrate successes and have a conversation about areas that need attention. Regular attendance, using class time well, and asking for help are important habits. If your student is struggling, please connect with their teachers so we can work together on clear, manageable next steps.

We also welcome families to get involved through School Council. Our next meeting is October 28 at 7 p.m., and we would be pleased to see you there. Keep an eye on our website, Facebook, and Instagram for school news, celebrations, and upcoming opportunities.

Thank you to our staff, families, volunteers, and community partners for everything you do to support our students. With Fall Break approaching November 7–15, I hope everyone has an opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends.

As we continue through the season, we're focusing on improving our teamwork, staying positive, and giving our best effort in every game. We're proud of the progress we have made so far and look forward to seeing how much we can accomplish together!

We have three games left in the season to try to qualify for zones - come out and cheer on our Senior Girls!

- October 27: Game at Ponoka Secondary Campus @ 6 pm

- October 28: Home Game @ 6pm

- November 2: Home Game @ 6pm

Let's finish the season strong and make these last games count!

Junior Volleyball Season Update

The grade 9 girls volleyball team is just over halfway through the season. We have three games left: two away and one home game on Wednesday. We have been competitive in every match and have two wins and three losses this season. Many of our games have been decided by two points. The thing I am most impressed with is the growth in development of their skills. If we can manage to field a senior and junior varsity team next year, we are well on our way to developing a very competitive girls volleyball program here at IRSC.

Cross Country Season Update

Mrs. Bowie and Mrs. Taylor coached the cross country runners this season. We had a total of 10 students compete at the junior and senior level.

Our Grade 9 runners raced at the WC Meet at Deer Valley Meadows in September, and then at CWAJHAA at Burma Hills in October. Our Grade 10 - 12 athletes ran at Zones in Camrose. Congratulations to Savannah Halladay for placing 10th at CWAJHAA and earning a ribbon!

Congratulations to Alex Ringguth, Brycen Church, and Dayton Ricker for earning a spot at Senior Provincials in Edmonton in mid-October. A special shout out to Ben McEvoy, our para runner, who earned a gold medal at Zones and a ribbon for placing 6th at Provincials!

Football Season Update

Our football team found its stride this year in its second season. We had close games all year but couldn't quite string together a win. This included the first ever football game played in the town of Blackfalds. Thank you to our 12 graduating players who helped lead the way in developing the culture for our team. For all grade 9-11 students interested in playing, there will be a meeting in early April to discuss spring camp.

Exciting News: Italy Spring 2028 Trip!

Buon giorno! We are thrilled to announce that planning is officially underway for an unforgettable school trip to Italy in the Spring of 2028! Following a fantastic turnout at our initial interest meeting with over 40 eager grade 10 & 11 students, we are moving into the next phase of planning. Because space for this trip will be limited, interested students will need to complete an application form to be considered - this has yet to be released to students. Student selections will be made in consultation with teachers and school administration. If your child missed the initial meeting or would like more information about the application process or timeline, please contact Mrs. Lapointe (julie.lapointe@wolfcreek.ab.ca) directly. Stay tuned for application release dates!

πŸ₯― Books & Bagels - Student Book Club πŸ₯― πŸ₯― Books & Bagels - Student Book Club πŸ₯―

We are excited to introduce our first-ever Books & Bagels Club at IRSC! Thirteen students in Grades 9–12 have come together to share their love of reading, conversation, and community. After starting with a list of over 15 books and narrowing it down to three finalists, our students overwhelmingly voted for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as our first book!

We are seeking sponsorships and donations to help purchase a copy of the novel for each student as well as provide bagels and snacks for our club gatherings. Any support would be greatly appreciated and will help make this exciting reading experience possible for our students!

If you have any questions or are interested in helping support our club, please contact Kandice at kandice.adamson@wolfcreek.ab.ca. Thank you for helping us make this opportunity possible!
