HEB Read 3 Program

H-E-B launched the Read 3 program in 2011 to promote good reading habits at home. The Read 3 program encourages parents to read to their young children at least three times a week so that they are better prepared to start school ready to read. Each year, H-E-B supports literacy in our communites by supporting public libraries, schools, and literacy organizations through book donations, volunteer hours, and monetary gifts. Through the years, more than 6 million books have been donated to children across Texas at our Feast of Sharing events, community fairs, book festivals, at schools, and in our stores.

Each September, Read 3 celebrates National Literacy Month by hosting our Big Texas Read In. Annually more than 100,000 students across Texas join us by stopping and reading all together, at the same time across our state.

Barnes and Noble-Summer Reading Program

Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them during July and August. Click on picture to find all information.

Parents click here to learn about YALSA select reading lists the best books and media for teens. Whether you're looking for a book for a reluctant or avid teen reader, there's sure to be a title that will fit the bill. While these books have been selected for teens from 12 to 18 years of age, the award-winning titles and the titles on YALSA's selected lists span a broad range of reading and maturity levels. We encourage adults to take an active role in helping individual teens choose those books that are the best fit for them and their families.

Also, YALSA has launched this new link just click on- Teen Book Finder Database, which is a one-stop shop for finding selected lists and award winners. Users can search this free resource by award, list name, year, author, genre and more, as well as print customizable lists. This new resource will replace the individual award and list web pages currently on YALSA’s site that are not searchable and that are organized only by year.
