Mustang Update
The fall sports season is now in the books for 2026-2027! All of our teams experienced success this year but it is always tough when an athlete’s season comes to an end. We would like to congratulate all of our athletes and commend them for their hard work during the season and during the off-season! We would also like to thank our parents. Your behind-the-scenes support does not go unnoticed. You play a vital role in all of our programs! We do have one last bit of news to share about fall sports and it comes to you via the high school cross country program. Sophomores Langston Gray and Emma Warders placed at the 2A State Meet this past Saturday. Langston placed 14th and Emma placed 24th! Great job coaches and athletes! We will post any post-season honors as we receive them!
One of our goals in USD 498 is Community Connections and I think we do a fine job of working with the people who support us here at Valley Heights! This past week we were the voting center for federal and state elections on Tuesday. On the same day our FACS group and Mrs. Pacha hosted a Red Cross Blood Drive in the gym. Based on the number of people I saw throughout the day I think both events were well attended. The third event will actually take place on November 6th! Our KAYS group and Ms. Toerber will be hosting our annual Veteran’s Day program! This program is open to the public! We will recognize the veterans in attendance as well as hearing from Mr. Tommy Tryon!
We have two very big events on the calendar in the very near future. Our All-School Play, “Cactus Pass” will be performed at the Waterville Opera House! The dates for the performances will be November 13th and 14th at 7:00 pm and on the 15th at 2:00 pm. Cost to attend is a free-will donation to help support future productions! This is one of our favorite events of the year as we get to see our students in costumes and portraying their characters! To the staff, performers and crew we say “Break A Leg!”
The second event is our Fall Sports Banquet hosted by the Mustang Booster Club! The date for this event is November 17th! The doors will open at 5:45 pm and the banquet will start at 6:30 pm. There will be a catered meal and each plate will cost $15.00 at the door. They do ask you to RSVP if you plan on attending (see link in a post below)
The gym project is getting closer to being done. We have had a crew here for the past few weeks installing six new basketball goals, shot clocks and two volleyball nets complete with hardware. The electricians have been working on getting power to the motors that will raise and lower our goals and nets. Visitors will notice that the goals no longer hang over the volleyball courts and instead swing up to the side. The four side goals are height adjustable for youth play and the entire system is controlled by computer software so no more keys to run the pulley system. The new system makes a real statement in the gym!
Parents – Please remember that we do not have classes on November 9th for Professional Development!
Have a great week and Go Mustangs!
Mr. Savage

🎓🎓🎓SENIOR CORNER🎓🎓🎓
Senior of the Week - Dehlyn Martin
Don't Move Too Fast
Dehlyn Rachael Diane Martin was born December 15, 2008 and is the daughter of Melanie Martin-Woutzke and William Woutzke. She was raised in Waterville, KS with her twin sister Tylehn and brothers Deven, Tristan, and Kaiden. Dehlyn has been involved in Art Club 4 years; Band and Softball 2 years; FACS, Basketball, and Volleyball 1 year.
Frank Ocean, a famous musician, once said, “Someone loves everything you hate about yourself.” Martin said that it is her favorite quote because, “The meaning of it is so deep to me, because it talks about someone loving all of your insecurities." One of her favorite memories from high school that she will never forget was when she face planted on the gym floor in front of her class. Two of Dehlyn's favorite things are the song “Piece of Me” by Nate Deslauriers and chicken. Dehlyn's ultimate Friday night is hanging out with her closest friends. After high school, Dehlyn plans to pursue a career in nursing. In 10 years Dehlyn sees herself traveling around the world.
Dehlyn's mother and sister have influenced her the most by always being there for her and helping her through life. One piece of advice that she would give to the underclassmen is don't move too fast, it goes by much faster than it looks like. When Dehlyn leaves Valley Heights High School she wants to be remembered as the loudest person in the room.
