Quarter 2: Growing Together, Driven by Excellence! 🧡💙

Dear NCE Families,

As we move further into Quarter 2, we are entering our Analyze Phase! We are taking a closer look at our SPARKS’ progress, celebrating their growth, and identifying where additional support is needed. Together, we will build on our Quarter 1 momentum through two key areas: academic growth and a positive campus culture.

Focusing on Academic Growth

Our teachers are reviewing student work, assessments, and classroom performance to understand what our SPARKS have mastered and what they are ready to learn next. This helps teachers plan targeted small-group instruction, address learning gaps, and provide challenges that deepen understanding.

How can you support your SPARK at home?

  • Ask about learning. Try asking, “What did you learn today?” or “What challenged you, and how did you work through it?”

  • Practice together. Read, discuss a story, review math facts, or practice skills shared by your child’s teacher.

  • Encourage problem-solving. Give your SPARK time to explain their thinking and try another strategy before stepping in with an answer.

  • Build consistent routines. Prioritize daily attendance, arriving on time, and a regular time for reading and homework.

  • Celebrate progress. Recognize effort, perseverance, and improvement—not just grades!

Building a Strong Campus Culture

We want NCE to be a joyful place where every SPARK feels safe, connected, and excited to learn! We are also reinforcing consistent expectations that help protect learning time and keep our shared spaces safe.

Hallway transitions and bathroom breaks should remain silent so nearby classrooms can continue learning without disruption. We are helping our SPARKS understand when it is appropriate to socialize and celebrate and when they need to remain quiet and focused.

How can you support your SPARK at home?

  • Reinforce expectations. Talk about following adult directions, using respectful language, keeping hands and feet to themselves, and caring for shared spaces.

  • Encourage responsibility. Remind your SPARK to follow routines, make thoughtful choices, and ask a trusted adult for help when needed.

  • Stay connected. If your child shares a concern or needs support with learning or behavior, reach out to their teacher so we can work together.

Our Quarter 2 Challenge: Get 1% Better Every Day!

Our Analyze Phase is about reflecting, making purposeful adjustments, and taking action. We don’t expect perfection—we encourage progress! Practicing a difficult skill, asking for help, or making a positive choice are all steps worth celebrating.

Thank you for your continued support, trust, and partnership. Together, we will help our SPARKS grow in confidence, strengthen their skills, and remain Driven by Excellence!

With gratitude,
NCE Campus Leadership Team

Red Ribbon Week Spirit Days | October 26–30 ❤️

SPARKS Families, let’s celebrate making healthy, drug-free choices with a week full of school spirit! Help your SPARK plan their outfits and join the fun using items you already have at home.

Monday, October 26 — Hats On, Drugs Off! 🎩
Put a cap on drugs! Wear your favorite baseball cap, cowboy hat, bucket hat, beanie, or silly hat as we kick off a week of choosing healthy futures.

Tuesday, October 27 — Too Bright for Drugs! 🌈

Our SPARKS have bright futures ahead! Wear your brightest colors, neon clothing, or colorful accessories to show that your future is too bright for drugs.

Wednesday, October 28 — Picture This: Me, Drug-Free! 📸

It’s Picture Day! Come dressed in your picture-perfect outfit and bring your best smile. Let’s picture a future filled with happiness, success, and healthy choices!

Thursday, October 29 — Drugs and Me? We Don’t Match! 🧦

Mix it up with mismatched clothes, patterns, colors, or socks! Have fun creating an outfit that doesn’t match—because drugs and our goals don’t match either!

Friday, October 30 — Booked for a Drug-Free Future! 📚

Dress as your favorite book character! Bring a story to life with a school-appropriate outfit inspired by Pete the Cat, The Cat in the Hat, Clifford, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or another favorite. Simple, homemade outfits are welcome! Let’s celebrate how reading, imagination, and learning help our SPARKS build bright futures.

Thank you, families, for helping our SPARKS make healthy choices and show their NCE spirit!

Calling All SPARKS: Let’s Do the Monster Mash! 👻🎃

NCE Families, join us for Monster Mash, our first Art & Dance/Cheer fundraiser! All SPARKS are invited to enjoy a dance with concessions, a photo booth, and a costume contest! Tickets will be available at the door for $2 per person.

Proceeds will support our Art Club and Dance/Cheer team, helping fund future events, celebrations, and, if possible, field trips for our hardworking SPARKS!

Help us bring the fun to life! We are looking for food and snack donations, dance equipment, and volunteers to help with setup, cleanup, and concessions. If we have enough volunteers, we also hope to create an elementary-friendly haunted house—complete with friendly ghosts and monsters inside the maze!

Sign-ups and equipment requests will be posted on ParentSquare. Donating items or volunteering your time provides free entry for one currently enrolled NCE student.

Every contribution makes a difference—including simply attending! If you’re unable to donate or volunteer, bring your SPARKS and enjoy the fun. Your support will help us reach our goals and create more special experiences for our students!

Book Character Parade: Friday, October 30!

Our Book Character Parade will begin first thing Friday morning! Please make sure your SPARK arrives on time, dressed in the costume that matches their classroom’s assigned theme. Classes begin at 7:25 a.m., and students who arrive tardy will not be able to participate.

A friendly reminder: this is a Book Character Parade, not a Halloween dress-up day. Every class has an assigned theme. Please contact your child’s teacher for costume details.

This celebration is for students and staff only, but families can watch the parade live as it happens through our NCE Facebook page or the Microsoft Teams meeting!

Be sure to follow our NCE Facebook page (North Central Elementary Facebook) to stay connected with campus happenings and enjoy a glimpse of everyday life at NCE and what makes our community so special.

Thank you for helping make this beloved NCE tradition our best one yet!

Front Office Front Office

Birthday Celebrations

Families, birthday celebrations started on Friday, September 4. Please remember birthday guidelines:

  • Families can bring: store-bought cupcakes, chips, juices, and individually packed snacks and goodie bags. NO warm food, fruit trays, whole cakes... are allowed.
  • EVERYTHING MUST be delivered to the front office by 9:30am.

Arrival Reminders Arrival Reminders

Our doors open at 7:00 am. All families should enter through the cafeteria doors for morning drop-off and follow the designated traffic flow.

  • Red Tag Families: Please plan to drop off beginning at 7:00 am. Arriving later can interrupt the established traffic flow and create additional congestion.
  • Please have students ready to exit the vehicle when your car reaches the cafeteria doors. Backpacks, water bottles, and other belongings should be ready to go.
  • Students are considered tardy after 7:45 am.
  • Be a Good Neighbor: Please refrain from blocking residential driveways along Strawn Road while waiting in the car line. We want to be respectful of our NCE neighbors and ensure they can safely enter and exit their homes.
  • Phones Down, Safety First: Please refrain from using your cell phone while moving through the car line. Staying alert and following staff directions helps us keep our students, families, and staff safe and keeps the line moving efficiently.
  • Keep Fire Lanes Clear: Families, please refrain from parking or waiting in designated fire lanes at any time.

Thank you for helping us keep our arrival line moving safely and efficiently!

NCE Morning Announcements NCE Morning Announcements

Our daily Morning Announcements begin at 7:30 am! This is an important part of our school day when we celebrate student birthdays, share school updates, recognize our perfect attendance homerooms, and prepare for a great day of learning.

We want every student here on time so they can be part of our NCE community from the very start of the day!

Dismissal Reminders Dismissal Reminders

Dismissal begins at 3:00 pm. With 857 students to dismiss each afternoon, safety and cooperation are our top priorities.

We ask all families to please be patient, courteous, and follow the directions of the officer on duty and NCE staff members. Our team is working as quickly and safely as possible to ensure every student gets home safely.

Secondary (NCS) Students: If your secondary student is waiting for a sibling on NCE property, we kindly ask that they remain seated or standing in a designated area while they wait. Please remind students that they should NOT run through the parking lot or play with or kick balls while on NCE property. Our parking lot is extremely busy during dismissal, and we want to keep everyone safe.

Car Rider Traffic: Once you no longer see the number catcher (the staff member entering car rider numbers), please use the inner lane only and continue around to the cafeteria. Following this traffic pattern helps us keep cars moving safely and efficiently.

Lost Car Reminder: If your car has been identified as a “lost car” during dismissal, please turn on your hazard lights. This will help our dismissal team quickly identify your vehicle and work to get your student to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for helping us make dismissal safe, smooth, and efficient for everyone!

After-School Programs: Important Dismissal & Pick-Up Reminders After-School Programs: Important Dismissal & Pick-Up Reminders

Dear NCE Families,

Our after-school programming is officially in full swing! We are excited to offer our SPARKS additional opportunities to learn, grow, and participate in extracurricular activities.

To help ensure a safe, organized, and efficient dismissal process, we would like to remind families of our designated pick-up locations and dismissal times for each program.

Tutorials, Clubs & Sports | 4:30 PM

  • Students participating in after-school tutorials, clubs, or sports will dismiss at 4:30 PM.

  • Parents must use the INNER pick-up lane (the lane closest to the school building).

  • Please remain in the designated lane while waiting for your student.

ASPIRE After-School Program | Beginning at 4:45 PM

  • Students enrolled in ASPIRE will begin dismissing at 4:45 PM.

  • ASPIRE families must use the OUTER pick-up lane (the lane farthest from the school building).

  • Please do not enter the inner lane for ASPIRE pick-up.

Important Reminders for All Families

To avoid confusion, unnecessary delays, and traffic congestion, please make sure you are using the correct lane for your child's after-school program.

Please note that tutorials, clubs, and sports dismiss at 4:30 PM, while ASPIRE dismissal does not begin until 4:45 PM. These are separate dismissal processes with different designated pick-up lanes.

We kindly ask all families to follow the directions of our dismissal staff, remain patient, and help us maintain a safe environment for every student.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued partnership as we work together to keep our SPARKS safe!

Every Minute Matters! Every Minute Matters!

  • Tardies: Students arriving after 7:45 am
  • Early Dismissals: Students who are picked up excessively before 2:30 pm
  • Late Pick-Ups: Students who are excessively picked up after 3:45 pm

Being at school on time and for the full instructional day matters. Consistent tardiness and early dismissals cause students to miss valuable instructional time, while repeated late pick-ups impact campus operations and staff responsibilities.

Excessive tardies, early dismissals, and/or late pick-ups may impact a student's eligibility to participate in certain student activities, including field trips and other special events.

Our goal is simple: We want our SPARKS at school, on time, every day and ready to learn!
