DISTRICT UPDATE
April 2, 2025
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
As we welcome the arrival of spring (despite the snow this past weekend), our schools are buzzing with activity and excitement. This season brings not only warmer days and new opportunities for growth but also a chance to celebrate the incredible work of our students and staff. Across our district, students are engaged in a variety of projects that showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and dedication to learning. Whether it’s innovative science experiments, meaningful community service initiatives, or impressive performances in the arts, our students continue to inspire us with their hard work and passion. I encourage all families to attend parent-teacher conferences this month.
Spring is also a time to recognize the outstanding educators who make a lasting impact on our students. I am proud to share that several of our dedicated teachers have been nominated by parents and/or their peers for the 2025 York County Teacher of the Year:
Christine Duncan, Biddeford Primary School
Nancy Goodwin, Biddeford Intermediate School
Didi Holt, Biddeford High School’s Alternative Pathways Center
Amanda Wheelock, Dayton Consolidated School
Erin Gaudette, Dayton Consolidated School
This tremendous honor reflects their unwavering commitment to fostering a love of learning, supporting students in their growth, and creating positive, enriching classroom environments. Their work truly shapes the future, and we are grateful for all they do. Each nominee has been invited to continue the rigorous process of moving toward the final York County Teacher of the Year and ultimately the Maine State Teacher of the Year.
SCHOOL BUDGET
Please mark your calendar to vote for the 2025-2026 School Budget on Tuesday, June 10th (7am-8pm) in Biddeford and Thursday, June 12th (6pm) in Dayton). Although it’s a challenging year, we continue to seek innovative ways to meet the budget constraints, and with your support, we can continue making a positive difference for students. A formal public hearing of the 2025-2026 School Budget will be held on Tuesday, May 6th from 6-9pm at Biddeford City Hall (Linked here), and in Dayton, the proposed budget is available online (Linked here).
As we move through the final months of the school year, I encourage families to stay engaged, celebrate these achievements, and continue supporting our students and staff. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community—I look forward to all that we will accomplish together this spring!
I wish you all a restful and enjoyable Spring vacation with your families.
My Best,
Jeremy Ray
Superintendent of Schools

BlackOut and Blizzard have made their mark regionally at the Dartmouth High School Winter Guard International Regional Championships, taking first place in percussion and second place in winds. This is BlackOut’s second appearance on the national stage and Blizzard's first time performing at a Regional Championship. Way to go, Tigers!
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SPREADS SPRINGTIME CHEER
Last month, the Biddeford High School National Honor Society (NHS), led by their advisor, Mrs. Victoria Salo, challenged students to create “Welcome to Spring” cards for residents of Biddeford Estates and other area assisted-living homes. The response was outstanding, with nearly 200 handmade cards collected! Adding a creative touch, Forensics students incorporated their fingerprinting unit into the project, using their fingerprints to design unique cards.
The NHS members didn’t stop there. They also worked together to provide a spring craft project for Kindergarten and first-grade students at JFK and BPS schools. The group carefully cut out eggs and chicks, counted supplies, and packaged materials into individual envelopes for each teacher. To make the experience even more enjoyable, they included lollipops as a special treat. Pre-K students were also included, receiving printed coloring pages along with a small treat.
This thoughtful initiative not only spread joy to young students and senior residents but also reinforced the importance of community connection. The BHS National Honor Society is proud to remind the community that they are always remembered and valued. The group looks forward to continuing similar service projects in the years to come!
