PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade

We spent a lot of time figuring out whether books are fiction or nonfiction. Here is one of my favorite fiction read alouds about garbage trucks! I Stink by Jim and Kate McMullan. Then try to read the nonfiction book on real life garbage trucks yourself. If ok with your grownup, login information for this activity is at the bottom of this section.
  • PreK-K: Try the Which Came First Activity to see how well you remember the story.
  • 1st Grade: Try Fact or Fiction about garbage trucks.

Second Grade

  • We continue with our world folk and fairy tale reading with the Caldecott Award winning book A Story A Story by Gale E. Haley. DIscuss with a grown up where you think this story is from and what the story is trying to tell you. What lesson did you learn from this story? Username: bookflix47

  • EXTENDED: Login to Google Classroom and practice changing fonts, font size, and other text features in Google docs. TURN IN this document to me when you finish so I can see what you learned.

Third Grade

  • More on Copyright and Fair Use. Watch this BrainPop Video on Copyright. Those feeling daring, try the challenge questions at the end. It's okay to ask a grownup for help if you feel stuck. There is also a link in your Google Classroom.
  • Watch and read along with this story of gardening, growth, and rebirth in a dark and unloved city. The Curious Garden by Peter Brown.

Fourth Grade

  • Something Fun: Create a postcard for one of the states you researched using Google Slides or using materials found in your homes such as magazines or printed pictures. A template and directions will be available in your classroom on Monday.
  • EXTENDED: Regions and States graphic organizers are in your Google Classroom. Flex your brain and research skills. I will post direct links to databases for you to use.
  • Who doesn't love a read aloud? Choose to either read out loud to someone in your family or be read to on Storyline Online. It can be a book, a book chapter, a poem, or a magazine article.
  • OPTIONAL but Interesting: Read about strange names of places in the USA in this Scholastic Magazine article

Fifth Grade

  • EXTENDED: Please share your book talk form with me. I will post the Doc I created for all fifth grades and add new forms as I receive them.
  • What book are you pondering for your 30 second Book Talk? Create a Google Form asking the question and share it with me. I will create one list of all the forms I receive and you can take each other's surveys. Full instructions will be in your Google Classroom. Click here to view my example.
