Mission Moment
To provide a quality education, with opportunities and relationships, that cultivates success.
In a previous edition of the Panther Post, we announced the official start of construction on our Miami Trace Learning and Wellness Center. This facility is funded through Students Wellness Funding and Permanent Improvements Funds, ensuring that our general operating budget remains unaffected.
Some questions have been raised about the community-focused initiatives connected to this center. A few of these programs include: the Learn-Grow-and Thrive with Fayette County YMCA, Basic Life Skills & Cooking Skills with OSU Extension Office, and Mental Health & Social Well Being services with Southern Ohio ESC, Integrated Services of Behavior Health (ISBH) and Pickaway Area Recovery Services (PARS). We are grateful for the partners we have in our school community.
Progress continues on this new building. We hope you enjoy the photos and continue to follow the completion of this wonderful addition to the MT Campus. It will play a vital role in accomplishing mission moments now and in the future!

Alumni Spotlight
Spanning three decades of Miami Trace graduates, this issue’s Alumni Spotlight features three individuals who have each forged successful careers in financial services and work together under the same roof right here in Fayette County. With a combined total of 53 years of financial services experience, Mark, Ty, and Ryan assist the residents of Fayette County and the surrounding area with achieving their financial goals. Their dedication to both their profession and their community reflects the strong Miami Trace tradition of hard work and excellence.
Mark Casto, Class of 1985
Mark was a Varsity member of the Miami Trace football and track teams. He competed at the State track meet in 1985 and held the school record for the 100- and 200-meter dash for over 30 years. When Mark wasn’t on the field or track, he spent time as one of the original Bleacher Creatures whose creative outfits and fun antics were enjoyed by all the fans as they cheered the basketball team to victory. He and his wife, Gina, live in Fayette County. They have three children, Hannah (Evan) Schaefer, McKenna Casto, Cameron Casto, and one granddaughter, Hope Schaefer. All their children graduated from Miami Trace High School.
Mark says that it is never too late to pursue a dream. With dedication and hard work, you can achieve your goals.
Ty Kelley, Class of 1995
Ty Kelley, CFP®, Class of 1995, has traveled extensively as a Sound Engineer with Carnival Cruise Lines and freelanced as a Front of House Engineer working with talents such as Kenny Loggins, Dixie Chicks, Sara Evans, Neal McCoy, The Pfeifers, and The Martins. Ty decided to hang up the travel and music and settle down to utilize his Business and Risk Management degree earned at Eastern Kentucky University. After working for a bank and investment firm, Ty finally landed in his current and final stop at Creative Financial Solutions in 2018. His greatest professional achievement is earning the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation which allows him to help people navigate their retirement and financial journey.
As an avid golfer, Ty was a 4-year Varsity Golf Team member at Miami Trace shooting an even par 36 (a school record at the time). He enjoyed making lifelong friendships with students as well as staff members. Some of those friendships have also turned into business relationships. Ty and his wife, Cheri, reside in Washington Court House.
Ty recommends doing what makes you happy and choosing a career that provides fulfillment. Do not base your career decisions on money, vacation time, or what others think you should do. It is your life, your time; chase your dreams, and never give up.
Ryan Garland, Class of 2009
Ryan Garland, CFP®, salutatorian of the Class of 2009, attended Capital University where he majored in Financial Economics. Ryan began his career in wealth management in Columbus, Ohio where he earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation. He and his wife, Andrea (teacher at Miami Trace) and their three children, Cooper, Oliver, and Jane, live in Washington Court House. Ryan joined Creative Financial Solutions in 2024 so he can serve the community that has given so much to him.
Ryan was a member of the Miami Trace football team and remembers the 2007 game. The Blue Lions had only 1 loss all year, and they were undefeated in the SCOL, looking to win the Gold Football. Miami Trace ended up winning 42-40 in the most exciting game of his entire sports career. The win gave Miami Trace a share of the SCOL title capping a 5-game winning streak to end the season.
Ryan recommends being an advocate of your own professional and financial life. No one will care more about your success in these areas than you do. The most powerful force in finance is time. Start saving and investing as early as you can and never interrupt the power of compounding unnecessarily.
