LMS Friends,
It has been a busy two weeks at LMS! It is hard to believe that September went by so quickly. We have gotten off to a good start in October!
There are a couple of dates to keep in mind over the next few weeks.
Just a reminder that we do not have school on October 11th.
You might have also seen an open house on the calendar for the upcoming week. Unfortunately, the open house is not happening at this time. You are always welcome to reach out to your child’s teachers at any time.
We will be switching our essential arts classes on October 14th. This means that students will shift to a new class for the second half of the first trimester and students will be reminded of this at school. This also means that it is time for progress reports and teachers will update in PowerSchool grades by October 20th. You will see this in PowerSchool. If you ever have questions about grades or comments, please contact your child's teacher.
The LMS Flu shot clinic for students is happening on October 20th. Information continues to be in the nurses section of the Scoop and forms are also on our website homepage.
There is quite a bit in this edition of Scoop so grab a cup of coffee and kick your feet up. You can look forward to the next Scoop coming out on October 22nd.
Enjoy and have a great long weekend!
Regards,
John P. D'Entremont, Principal

Morning Drop-Off by Car
However, the Lebanon Police have received a number of complaints around cars trying to take the left turn from Route 4 on to Moulton Avenue.
In conversation with the police department, it has been suggested that LMS families try to use Prospect Street and Prospect Street Ext to make our traffic go one way towards LMS and from LMS.
If we all try this instead of taking the left from Route 4 to Moulton, it might make everyone's exit from Moulton a bit easier and safer.
Please also remember that if you drop off at 7:15, students are not let into the building until 7:22. Students will need to either stay under the tents or be prepared for rain if they are before 7:22.
THANK YOU for considering this adjustment!

Pool Testing Update
What you can expect from us on testing results?
After students are tested on a Wednesday, no news is good news.
If by chance a pool comes back positive, we have scheduled follow up testing on Friday. LMS will notify the staff and the families of those students in the pool that there is an unconfirmed positive case.
Students/staff in the pool will be asked to monitor for symptoms and will be tested on Friday. It is important for staff and students to stay home if they have any new symptoms suggestive of a viral infection. This means that coming to school when a person is not feeling well or might have symptoms even of a common cold is still not acceptable – such symptoms can include any of the currently listed symptoms of COVID-19.
After Friday's follow up testing, LMS will follow up with either the negative or positive results. The positive person would be asked to isolate and close contacts would be notified per the procedures we have been following since the start of the pandemic. The Superintendent would also inform the larger community of the positive test result.
If you have questions on our pool testing process, please reach out to Dr. D'Entremont.

STUDENT FLU CLINIC
A reminder that we have a student flu clinic coming up on Thursday, October 21st. Vaccine information sheets and consent forms can be found on the LMS web page under News & Announcements. The completed forms are due back to the nurse by Oct. 15th.
IMMUNIZATION NON COMPLIANCE LETTERS
These letters will be sent out this week and next. If you receive a letter from me in the mail, it is meant as a gentle reminder that your child is missing a NH state required immunization for school attendance. Please provide the record requested as soon as possible. I know many families missed their annual exams last year and are now trying to catch up on those appointments/immunizations. Please let me know if you have an upcoming appointment for any vaccines.
Coughs, nasal congestion, fever and sore throats are all common this time of year under “normal circumstances.” However, we aren’t in normal circumstances, we are still in a pandemic and still requiring a covid test if your child has any new covid symptom/s (even if they are fully vaccinated). We cannot say “it’s just a cold” without testing. Thank you to the families that have proactively kept their children home and tested them when they’ve had symptoms.

5th Grade Social Skill of the Week
School Counseling lessons happen weekly in each 5th grade class. These lessons focus on the five social competencies including: Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, Self-Management, Self-Awareness, and Responsible Decision-Making. To begin the year, 5th grade students are working on Building Community in their classrooms and practicing Active Listening (Social Awareness and Relationship Skills).
To begin the year we have been discussing what community means, how people build community with each other, and why it is so important to create a learning community where students can feel comfortable taking risks. Learning new things isn’t always easy, it can take courage and perseverance. If kids don’t feel comfortable and safe with their peers, it will be that much harder to take those risks.
To build community we need to know each other. We need to find the things we have in common, and understand and respect the ways we are different. We need to create a culture of understanding and trust. Just like the real world...right?
To practice, each 5th grade student created their own “Story About Me” and has shared it with the class. While each student shared their personal story with the class, the rest of the class practiced their Active Listening skills. We discussed the difference between “listening” and “active listening” and its importance in building relationships. Students practiced “Active Listening” by asking open-ended questions after each student shared their story. They learned how this conversational skill gives the listener an opportunity to let the speaker know they are understood. We all like to feel understood!
These students are ROCK STARS! This is a phenomenal fifth grade class, with so many kind, hard-working and supportive students. We are going to have a fabulous year!
Zen Club
The Zen Club is a new after school program starting up on October 20th. Zen Club will be a place for kids to de-stress and try activities designed to help bring balance into their life. We’ll practice yoga and meditation, journaling, as well as some mindful craft activities. We may even get outside from time to time to enjoy nature. How the group runs will have a lot to do with what participants are most interested in. Ms. Stockwell, the 5th and 6th grade School Counselor will be leading the group.
The group will run Wednesdays until 3:45pm. Bus transportation home is available to students who live in Lebanon. Students should see Ms. Stockwell if they are interested in joining. Namaste!
