Art students were busy this month-Liz Miller

This month students have been working hard in the art room! Our Jr. High classes just finished a collaborative grid project of our mascot that is displayed by the high school bathrooms. Seniors Olivia Skalla and Parker Winslow are working on paintings. Junior, Celina Weyer has just finished a jewelry project over the 7 deadly sins.

JH Scholar's Bowl-Shannon Conti

The Junior High Scholars' Bowl team consisting of seven 8th graders and five 6th graders attended their 2nd meet on February 15th at Luckey. The 7th grade team, with the help of 8th grader Leah Steinfort, ended in a three way tie for 1st place, while the 8th grade team finished in a two-way tie for 3rd. We are awaiting results for final placing. As a treat, the team enjoyed dinner together at Chick-fil-A and Starbucks before returning to Valley Heights. Huge thank you to Caley Gallimore for helping us out by driving and keeping scores. We have two more meets before our season is over.

February 20 BVL Scholars Bowl at Hanover.

The Varsity (8th Grade team) took 3rd place at the tournament. Medals will be awarded as soon as they arrive. A scoring issue was resolved that awarded us third place! Attached are a few pictures from the competition. The team is practicing before leaving for the meet, waiting for a round to start and then a team photo.

The boys are the #6 seed and will travel to Lincoln on Tuesday night (2/27) with the game starting at 6:00 pm. Please remember that ticket prices for these contests will be higher than regular season games. Adult tickets will be $8.00 per person and student tickets (grades K-12) will be $6.00. League and building level passes will not be accepted at any of the games! We want to wish our Mustangs the best of luck as we enter post-season play.

It is FFA Week here at Valley Heights! The students have had a fun time participating in the daily activities which included dress up days, the Greenhand ceremony, drive a tractor to school day and the always popular pancake breakfast. We would like to congratulate Ms. Husband and our FFA Chapter for a successful week and a successful year to date and we certainly anticipate even more to celebrate in the weeks and months to come. I believe we have several pictures of some of our FFA activities

Mrs. Pacha and our FACS club hosted a very nice banquet on Thursday night, February 22nd. The Commons was decorated very nicely which set the tone for the night. Our FACS club members prepared the meal, served the meal to our guests, and sat at the various tables to visit with our guests! The event was well attended and the meal was delicious. Thank to our FACS members and their sponsor, Mrs. Jen Pacha! Great job everyone!

Our spring sports will be starting practice on Monday, March 26th! This will include JH Track and HS Softball/Baseball for those students not playing basketball. All practices will be after school. We will have a bus that will take students to Waterville and Blue Rapids with a pickup time of 5:00 pm at the high school! If you have any questions about this please free to contact the school!

The end of the third nine weeks is quickly approaching so please make sure you are visiting with your students about their academic progress. You can also access your student’s grades and attendance via your Parent Portal in PowerSchool! Just a reminder that academic eligibility at the end of the third nine weeks determines attendance for Prom. This applies to all 9-12 students – Juniors, Seniors and dates!

Speaking of the end of the third nine weeks – our spring calendar is full! That means several things! First, the end of the school year is right around the corner even though we have not finished the month of February. Second, our staff and students will be very busy in the classroom and with activities. And third – it becomes very important for all of our students to stay focused on their classwork and due dates. We want everyone to finish the school year on a positive note!

Have a great week!

Mr. Savage

FFA WEEK WAS A SUCCESS FFA WEEK WAS A SUCCESS

Attention Students and Parents

Grade 9-12 students at Valley Heights must be academically eligible to attend Prom. No exceptions! Eligibility will be determined at the end of the third nine weeks which ends on March 8th. Students, remember also that you must have worked the required number of concession stands(three) over the past year in order to attend Prom as well!! If you don't know how many you have worked - please ask the office!!
