Superintendent's Friday Message

Opening Message From Dr. Galusi
Dear MPS Community Members,
While our wait to welcome students back two days longer than anticipated due to snow, it was such a delight seeing them return on Wednesday. Among the many busy classrooms buzzing with excitement, Grade 6 students at the McGlynn shared their group amusement park projects featuring attractions that represented different parts of the human body systems. See below for pictures of our students presenting their imaginative ideas.
Next Tuesday, March 3 will be a Professional Development Day for staff and no school for students except at the Roberts Elementary School. Roberts students will have an Early Release Day next Tuesday due to their December school day cancellations; their school staff members will engage in Professional Development in the afternoon following dismissal.
As a result of the two snow days this week, the last day for students across MPS will be on Wednesday, June 24 (Roberts Elementary will be on Thursday, June 25). Medford High School & Curtis-Tufts graduation ceremonies will remain on Thursday June 4. Visit Here for the updated 25/26 school calendar.
Sincerely,
Dr. Galusi
Medford High School Building Project Update
Thank you to my fellow members on the Medford High School Building Committee (SBC) for meeting this week while handling the effects of the snowstorm. We had two important meetings, and that's ahead of next week's Community Forum #2!
On Monday, the SBC met to approve our Preferred Design Program (PDP) submission to the MSBA. This PDP report is quite comprehensive but includes key deliverables such as our educational plan, current design options and their estimated costs, and more. The committee also approved the evaluation criteria we will use to help narrow down design options in the next two months. Visit Here for Monday's meeting materials and recording, and Visit Here for Wednesday's meeting recording where we voted on a Construction Management At-Risk build model if the project is approved in Spring of 2027.
Community Forum #2 for the Building Project will be held this Thursday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Medford High School library! This event will provide attendees with a brief overview of the project timeline followed by an interactive design input session. Attendees will engage with 3D models of the design options being considered at this stage and provide direct feedback to the project team.
Because attendees will be interacting with different models of the design options, this event will be in-person only. Translation services will be provided in partnership with the Medford Connect's Team.
We hope to see you there! For further project updates and documents, please visit medfordhsproject.com.
