Community Events & Resources
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library provides free, age-appropriate books to children from birth to age five, with
rules focused on local availability, residency, and age
; parents or guardians register eligible kids online or via paper forms in participating areas, ensuring they live where the program operates, and books are mailed monthly until the child turns five, building home libraries with no cost to families.Key Eligibility Rules
- Age: Children from birth up to their fifth birthday.
- Residency: Must live in a county or area where the program operates (availability varies by location).
- Registration: Parents/guardians register children through local affiliates.
How it Works
- Free Books: Families receive one book each month at no cost.
- Personalized: Books are addressed to the child.
- Age-Appropriate: Books are selected to match the child's age and developmental stage.
- Building a Library: The goal is to build a collection of books in the home before kindergarten.
How to Join
- Check Availability: Visit the Imagination Library's website (imaginationlibrary.com) and use the "Find My Program" tool to see if it serves your area.
- Register: Sign up online or get a form from a local library or community center if available in your location.
- Receive Books: After registration, it typically takes a few months (around 90 days) to start getting books.
Important Notes
- Local Control: Local communities partner to fund and manage the program, so availability and registration methods can differ slightly.
- No Repeat Books: Each child gets unique books, but families with multiple children might get some repeats and are encouraged to donate them.
