What is a Child Advocate:

A child advocate is a worker who is employed by the Children's Advocacy Center. An advocates main job is to make sure that all victims get the services and support they need throughout the entire investigation and within the criminal court system if the case goes to court.

Advocates work to coordinate the efforts of the investigators, law enforcement, caseworkers, therapists, and the State's Attorney office. Advocates help explain the processes of all the other agencies and can serve as a link to these agencies. Advocates help families get into counseling by working on referrals and helping initiate contact between the CAC counselors and the families. Advocates are a main support for victims and their families in their time of need. If a case goes to court the advocate will attend all court hearings with the family or on behalf of the family if the family is unable to attend. The advocate can help explain the court process and explain what is happening with the case. If a child is needed to testify in court the advocate will help prepare the victim and the victims family. The advocate assigned to each case at the CAC contacts the victims families regularly and helps keep the victim and the family up to date on the what is currently happening with the case. The advocate is here to assist with any questions or concerns that victims or victims families may have about the ongoing case.

The FWCAC has two full time advocates that currently serve our clients. Our advocates are a huge help to our clients in their time of need and do a lot to make sure the clients are getting all the services they need.

How to Help:

Here at the CAC we are always in need of donations, whether that be a monetary donation, a donation of time to be a board member, a donation of talents, or a donation of snacks!

We provide snacks for all of the children who come to our office for counseling as well as snacks for children after they complete their forensic interview. Juice boxes, individual bags of snacks, granola bars, mini bottles of water, and fruit snacks are always very appreciated.

If you are handy with tools we could use your talents as well. We always have a "honey-do" list of projects that we hope to get completed and could use your time and talents to do so!

Blue Kid Campaign:

Every year in April we celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month! Some people celebrate by wearing blue, putting a blue light bulb on their porch, making Facebook posts to draw attention to child abuse, and some people celebrate by sponsoring blue kids from the FWCAC! For just a $100 tax deductible donation we place Blue Kid Signage outside of your home or business for the month of April to raise awareness and show support for the FWCAC! Blue kids and signage are delivered and put up in your yard or at your office by April 1st and are picked up in the beginning of May so you are able to show your support all month long! Not only does this draw attention to preventing child abuse it also shows support to your local CAC and helps us raise money for our center! We love driving around Franklin and Williamson county and seeing Blue Kids out raising awareness!

The FWCAC can’t thank the businesses and families enough for their support during the month of April and we look forward to partnering together again next year!

CAC Updates:

The Franklin-Williamson Child Advocacy Center got a new sign for our office located in Herrin, Illinois. The new sign really made a big difference and made our front lawn look so nice!

On Sunday May 5th 2019 local law enforcement officers met at the CAC early in the morning and took down our old wheel chair ramp! We are in the process of getting a new and improved ramp built on the other side of our facility but we needed the old one to come down first and we couldn't have done it without the help of these wonderful people, Bryan Rolape, Mari Kay Rolape-ISP, Chris Ramage-Marion PD, Maria Dwyer-Marion PD, and Shane Pettigrew-ISP! Thank you for donating your time and energy to help better the CAC! Stay tuned for more updates on how our new ramp is coming along!
