• JFDS is fortunate to have four AMAZING custodians.
• Yesterday, on Custodian Appreciation Day, staff and students alike joined up to thank our custodians for all of their hard work each and every day!

• Deb Neuman, Brian Sullivan, and the crew from My Maine Gardens returned to JFDS to see the amazing fall harvest from the school garden.

Mrs. Vassiliev and Mrs. Thurman led Accelerated Science students on the annual Invasive Crab trip. For 18 years, students have traveled to Moose Point State Park to search for and identify invasive species.

Members of the JFDS Bulldogs and WSCS Eagles joined the Maine Black Bears to help open the New Balance Soccer Complex. Both teams were invited to cheer on the Black Bears dring a game last night, and even got to play on the field. Go Bears!

After a summer of rocking out at the Maine Savings Amphitheater, Mr. Ireland organized a tour of the facility for the JFDS staff.

• The staff got to explore the backstage areas, the suites, and the rooftop deck.
• Mr. Haskins was able to fulfill a dream and strike a pose in honor of Elvis on stage.
• Could there be more news to come from this event? Stay tuned!

The first Fun Night of the school year is on October 17th, from 6PM to 8PM.

• Fun Nights are sponsored by the JFDS Student Council, and offer current JFDS students the chance to dance, play games in the gym, and socialize.
• The cost of admission is $3.00, and food & drinks are an additional fee.
• Fun Nights are open only to current JFDS students who are in good behavioral standing. All school rules apply at the event, including the dress code.

The end of the first quarter is coming quickly, on October 31st. If you have questions about how your child is doing, please reach out to your child's teachers, or access their grades on PowerSchool. The link to request parent access to PowerSchool is at the bottom of every newsletter.

The 2025-26 School Calendar includes six early release days for professional development. Middle school students will be dismissed at 11:30AM on the following days:

• Wednesday, October 15th
• Wednesday, February 11th
• Thursday, March 12th
• Wednesday, April 8th
• Wednesday, May 13th

• Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% of the days that they are enrolled in school. In Bangor, for a student attending the entire school year, chronic absenteeism would be 17 days or an average of approximately two days per month. Chronic absenteeism is based on total absences - both excused and unexcused. We look forward to meeting our school goal of 95% attendance by June 2025!
