Music in Our Schools Month

For more than 40 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools and communities across the nation.

The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children—and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the value that school music brings to students of all ages.

MIOSM and the events surrounding it are the ideal opportunities for increasing awareness of the benefits of high-quality music education programs in our nation's schools. NAfME hopes that teachers, students, and music supporters alike will find ways to join the celebration through creative activities and advocacy.

At the SGC we will be doing SGC Staff Mystery Singer Videos, Student Spotlight Videos, Guess that Tune competitions, Music themed spirit days, March Music Madness tournament, Sharing music facts and jokes on the morning announcements.

Strayer MS Welcome Letter

Dear 6th Grade Families,

My name is Matthew Crater, and I am the Principal of Strayer Middle School. It is with great excitement that I welcome you and your child to the Strayer family! Transitioning to a new school is a significant milestone, and we are dedicated to supporting your student every step of the way.

To start this journey, I will be scheduling time with Mr. Dinney to visit an upcoming PTO meeting to meet as many of you as possible! Additionally, I’ll be spending time at the 6th Grade Center over the next few months to get to know our students before they make the move to Strayer.

I am pleased to share our 2026-2027 Course Selection Guide (Linked here). I want to thank our counseling team and express my appreciation for their hard work in developing this resource to support students through the course selection process.

Process & Timeline

  • Tuesday (3/3): Students will review the course guide during PRIDE.
  • This Week: Students and families should review the course options at home.
  • Thursday (3/5): Counselors will guide students through the selection process at school.

Questions: Students will have the opportunity to have their questions answered with counselors during the selection process on Thursday (3/5).

We look forward to meeting you and your students very soon.

Have a great weekend!

Matthew Crater Principal – Strayer Middle School

Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up

As a reminder lease be mindful of traffic patterns when dropping off and picking up students. Students may enter the building at the gym entrance, or the main entrance. When dropping students off, please pull as far up in the loop as you possibly can. Traffic has been backing up into the street.

Library Card Drive

A huge thank you to our librarian, Mr. Murphy, for his fantastic collaboration with the Bucks County Library to host a library card drive! A library card is a "golden ticket" to thousands of books, digital resources, and community programs.

We encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity to expand your student's horizons beyond the classroom. It's a simple way to foster a lifelong love of reading and discovery!

Working Together For a Safe Bus Ride

We appreciate your help in reminding students that the bus ride is part of the school day and should be safe and respectful for everyone. Please review these important reminders with your child:

  • Put cell phones away while walking up or down the bus steps or crossing the street.
Distractions can lead to slips, trips, or not noticing cars in motion.

  • Avoid running to the bus.
Rushing increases the chance of falling or not seeing traffic. It’s safer to walk calmly.

  • Keep ear buds out when entering or exiting the bus.
Students need to be able to hear the driver’s directions and any car horns nearby.

  • Wait for the driver’s signal before crossing the street after exiting.
The driver can see traffic that students may not—waiting for their direction helps everyone stay safe.

  • Stay seated while the bus is moving.
Sudden stops or turns can cause injuries if students are standing or moving around.

  • Use indoor voices—no screaming on the bus.
Loud noise can distract the driver, making it harder to hear sirens, horns, or students who need help.

  • Do not take photos or videos of other students without their permission.
Everyone deserves privacy and respect, and recording without consent can create conflict or embarrassment.

  • Please don’t eat on the bus.
Food can be a choking hazard, and some students have allergies that can be triggered by nearby snacks.

By following these simple expectations, we can make sure that every student has a safe and comfortable ride to and from school. Thank you for your support!
