SHS Community Newsletter
Week of November 2nd-6th
Principal Update
As our fall sports seasons come to a close, I want to congratulate all of our student-athletes and coaches on successful regular seasons. We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and commitment our teams have demonstrated throughout the fall. As nearly all of our teams begin their postseason runs, we wish them the very best of luck! I encourage our Scappoose community to come out and support our teams at home events and, when possible, hit the road to cheer them on at away competitions. Your support makes a difference, and we love seeing our Orange and Black community show up for our Indians!
Scappoose Theatre also has an exciting production coming up in November! Our students will be presenting "Who Needs a Script, Anyways?" We encourage families and community members to come out and support our talented theatre students. Performance dates and times are:
November 5 – 7:00 PM
November 6 – 7:00 PM
November 8 – 7:00 PM
November 12 – 7:00 PM
November 13 – 7:00 PM
November 14 – 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM
A few important dates and reminders for families:
November 2: Parent-teacher conference scheduling opens. Please use the SHS Conference Scheduling Website to schedule your conferences.
November 9–10: Parent-teacher conferences.
Students must attend a full-day of school without unexcused absences to participate in any extracurricular activity.
Thank you for your continued support of Scappoose High School and all of our students. Whether it's in the classroom, on the field, on the court, or on the stage, our students continue to give us plenty of reasons to be proud. Families are encouraged to reference the district website for current information as well.
Go Indians!

Saturday School Reinstated for Unexcused Absences
Due to an overwhelming number of unexcused student absences, Scappoose High School will be reinstituting Saturday School. Students who accumulate unexcused absences will be assigned to attend. To excuse your student's absence, you must contact Tina Gift directly at 971-200-8005 ext. 5015 or tgift@scappoose.k12.or.us . Written notes will not be accepted as an excuse. Accepted reasons for an excused absence include: personal illness or medical appointment, illness or death in the family, religious observance, school-sponsored activity, or emergency situations approved by administration. Please remember: any absence occurring midday must be arranged through Tina Gift prior to your student leaving campus. Students with excessive tardiness and multiple detentions will be assigned Saturday School on 11/7.

Library News
At Scappoose High, we are building a better library, and we need your help. Principal Kelley has dedicated school funds to updating and expanding the library’s collection, and the library staff want to add books that are current, relevant, and appealing to our readers. Students will have a chance to voice their opinions with a survey during their English classes, requesting specific titles, series, or genres that they’d like to see added to the library shelves. They can also share their ideas about how to make the library more welcoming for all our staff and students. Let’s build a better library together!
To start growing our collection, the library has added the books from this year's Oregon Battle of the Books and the Oregon Reader's Choice Award (ORCA) nominees. These books are all well-reviewed and highly recommended for high school readers. And if you read at least 2 of the ORCA nominees, you can vote in the spring to help decide the winning book. Look for all of these great books on display in the SHS Library.
