The special student of the week is a special week to honor the child.

We will do our best to schedule their special week around their birthday or half-birthday. Parent(s)/Special Guest(s) are invited to join us via zoom for the birthday walk and the story of their life.

The birthday walk is a special and fun event in the Oak Rooms. The children sit outside the ellipse (circle) and the teacher explains that it is a very special day for the birthday child. The birthday child holds a globe while the teacher places the candle in the center of the ellipse and explains, "This represents the Sun, the center of our universe, and that we on the Earth orbit around the Sun and this takes one whole-year and then we tell the very exciting story of their life."

During their special week children may bring in:

  • story of their life timeline (Birthday Walk)
  • bouquet of flowers (for floral arranging)
  • special snacks
  • favorite book
  • 3-5 of their favorite things to share with their friends (suggestions: shell from a special walk on the beach, souvenir from a family trip, photo of their family/pet/special event, etc.) Please, no fantasy toys - superhero, princess, Disney, etc.
  • (no party favors, please)

The children will have the opportunity to share a few of their favorite things. Another wonderful opportunity for public speaking.

* Birthday Walk Timeline, names and addresses for birthday party invitations and thank you cards can be found on Transparent Classroom.
